But Is This a Tiresome Post?

I am over halfway through the week and pretty damn happy about it.  But what to write about for my Wuss-out Wednesday post?  I have many things on my plate these days: two or three murder mysteries, summer Shakespeare, St. Baldrick’s Day, the Boilermaker 15K,  AND cleaning my dirty house, making daily blog posts, writing that novel…

Amidst all this, I am still battling my health or lack thereof.  I am becoming more familiar with Genesee Street in Utica from driving to specialists for diagnostic tests.  More I must not say, because, you know, HIPAA.  Also, as I often point out, it can be tiresome to hear people go on about their health and other problems.

You know, I say that, and I fear I do get tiresome sometimes, but there are other times when somebody tells me about their life, and I am quite interested.  Sometimes I learn something about diagnosis and treatment, or get some insight into family dynamics.  In short, I like to hear stories about people.  That is one reason I listen to gossip (judge me if you are so inclined).

Ah, now I have made this a Mid-Week Middle-aged Musings post.  I haven’t had one of those in a while.  Perhaps tomorrow I can give an update on one of my above-mentioned projects.  If I make any progress.  A little suspense adds interest to my week.

Whine or Wine on Monstrous Monday?

“What do you mean, you’re too tired to make a blog post?”

I open with a shot of Vincent Price giving the side-eye.  I don’t know why I’m so tired.  It was a perfectly normal day at work, and I did not go running after.   But there is no use in asking why.  For one reason, it might lead to half-baked philosophy more suitable for Lame Post Friday (oh the pain of looking down the long, long week till Friday!) (Oh, quit rolling your eyes and playing the miniature violins; it was a joke!).

Where was I?  Ah yes, Monstrous Monday.  I wonder if it wouldn’t be more pleasant to have Merlot Monday.  I know, only if I brought enough to share.

“Did you say Merlot?”

The above would be an example of a monster of the human variety.  I know that no wine was involved in Psycho.  I would just imagine the plot would have taken a few turns had there been wine involved.

“You have wine?”

Of course I had to include Nosferatu.  In the Bela Lugosi Dracula, the Count famously says, “I never drink wine,” a line also used by Martin Landau as Bela in Ed Wood.  I must say, that is where they and I differ.

My friend Bruce would say, “Don’t whine! WINE!!!”  He has a point.  Well I have tried not to whine too much about being tired, but there are those who will accuse you of whining on the flimsiest evidence (you know who you are) (and it is so flimsy evidence!).  In any case, I see I am over 250 words.  Perhaps a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon.  It’s not alliterative, but it tastes so good.

I Want Monsters for Christmas!

Oh, I am tired!  You can play those miniature violins; I know I am whining with very little excuse for doing so.  What a fat baby!  I am a fat baby, too.  My holiday weight gain is becoming apparent, to me at least.

None of this matters in the least.  I have a blog post to make.  I’m thinking it has been a while since I have indulged in a Monstrous Monday post (as usual I am too lazy to go back and check, but at least we know it has been a week).

Who doesn’t love a Christmas skeleton?

I open with Bonita, our skeleton dressed for the holidays.  Isn’t she pretty?

Green and red ARE the Christmas colors.

I was looking for something else, but Frankenstein’s Monster in a Santa hat caught my eye. So seasonal!

The only Grinch for me!

Also not what I was looking for, but what better Christmas monster than Boris Karloff reading How the Grinch Stole Christmas?

A Halloweeny Christmas decoration or a Christmasy Halloween decoration?

I can’t find the picture I wanted, but there is room for one more Monstrous Monday post before Christmas.   In the meantime,  here is one of our Santa Clauses wearing what used to be my favorite Halloween shirt.  It became too worn out for me to wear, but I think it looks fine on Kris Kringle.  Of course we took it off him after Nov. 1.  That Santa now graces our front porch.

I see I am over 200 words, and I feel too tired to bring this post to a graceful conclusion.  How disgraceful of me. Oh well, tomorrow is another day, when I can make another post.  As always, I hope you’ll stay tuned.

Don’t Walk, Run! At Least Don’t Whine!

My health woes continue, and I am just going to have to keep annoying people about them.  I actually felt a little better today.  True,  I kept saying to myself, “Holy crap, I feel like shit,” sometimes mixing it up a little and saying, “Holy shit, I feel like crap.”  But I did not feel desperately ill all the time.

I hoped I would be able to manage at least a short run.  Yesterday  I did not try to run but after writing some post cards tried to walk with them to the post office.  I got about two houses away when my body said, “Oh please, no.”  I cravenly turned around (no autocorrect,  I do not mean “gravely” when I typed “cravenly”).

I can see I am still not back up to blogging ability.  I just spent two paragraphs whining about being ill (ill, not I’ll, dammit!), and I haven’t even gotten to my run yet.  Maybe I should throw in a picture,  so this post has a shot at some entertainment value.

“Oh woe! Oh anguish!”

This is how I often pose with a headache, but I fear I am nowhere near this skinny.  Maybe if I went on a few more runs.

This was Halloween.

I was looking through the photos on my Tablet for something else for this post when I accidentally hit this one. I like it, though, so it can stay.

OK, today is the second day of a three day week for me.  That means it is Tuesday (the day it actually is), Wednesday (the middle day of the week), AND Thursday (because tomorrow is “Friday”).  That means I can call this a Non-Sequitur Thursday post.  Yes!

Murder, Wine, Just Another Scattered Saturday

I shall attempt a Scattered Saturday post,  but no promises. I am still tired and shaken after what turned out to be a wonderful theatre experience with Fabulous and Fatal, our murder mystery at the Travel Lodge in Little Falls to benefit the Herkimer County Historical Society.

Quite frankly, I expected to wake up hung over.  However, I did not, and remembering how much I actually drank, that is not surprising. I nursed my Cabernet Sauvignon, because I was performing.  Incidentally,  the performance went awesomely.  I will write more about it when I have some pictures to share.

This morning I went for a run.  Later we had some breakfast at Mona’s in Mohawk.  Later yet we went to a wine tasting at Valley Wine and Liquor in Herkimer.  Yum!  Then it was a quick trip to the Marina in Frankfort, NY and a drink or two at Heelpath Brewing Company.  Untamed Red by Rustic Ridge Winery in Burlington Flats.  Yum!

Now we are home, having arrived at the bra off, sweats on, wine drinking, movie watching portion of the day.  What Halloween movies will we watch?  I may list them tomorrow, having a Saturday and Sunday Cinema post.  As always,  no promises,  but I hope you will all stay tuned.

Respectable Run for a Tired Tuesday

I went running today in hopes of making a Running Commentary post.  Also in hopes of burning a few calories and getting closer to my weight loss goals.  Well, I blew the progress toward the weight loss goals by eating a few very delicious treats.  I have no regrets. Let’s see how I do on the blog post.

I did not get right to the run, as I prefer to do.  In fact,  I thought I had talked myself put of it.  Instead, I found myself putting on running clothes and gathering a load of laundry. My favorite multi-task is to out a load in the washer and run while it washes. Actually,  it is one of my only multi-tasks. Most of the time I can barely task, but let us not discuss my shortcomings.

Soon I was plodding down the sidewalk, feeling as if I had not run for days.  It has only been two, but I have not been running nearly enough.  I made up my mind to continue.  For one reason, I couldn’t take my shower till the washer was done.  This is why it is my favorite multi-task.

It was a beautiful warm, sunny day.  Perfect fall weather.  I enjoyed looking at the changing leaves and at people’s Halloween decorations.  I also enjoyed looking at my shadow when the sun was behind me.  How slender I looked!  What legs!  Of course, the angle of the sun elongated me into a far more flattering silhouette than I deserve.  Never mind that; it kept me running.

It was not all that good of a run.  For the most part I was tired and wanted to stop. However, I persevered for 24 minutes plus a 10 minute cool down walk.  I consider that respectable for a mid-week run.  Similarly, this post is now 300 words.  I say, respectable for a Tired Tuesday.

I’m a Monstrous Blogger

OK, so I made Tuesday’s post Wednesday morning then did not make Wednesday’s post either Wednesday evening nor yet Thursday morning.  Does that make this Wednesday’s post or Thursday’s post?  Oh the trials and tribulations of the would-be daily blogger!

I was slow to recover from what was really a minor ailment.  I still don’t feel 100%, but what, I ask, are you going to do?  Or should that be “are ya gonna do?”  No matter,  on with the blog post.

And now here I sit, staring at the blank screen and half listening to Snapped: Killer Couples.  I don’t enjoy this as much as the original Snapped, but sometimes I have to make do with whatever murder and mayhem is available at the time.

Similarly,  sometimes I have to make do with whatever blog post I can produce at the time.  At least I can pep things up with a couple of pictures.  We can call it a Mid-Week Monsters post.

Which is the monster?

Here is Dr. Praetorious in The Bride of Frankenstein.  I apologize for not looking up the actor’s name or even how to spell Praetorious.  Did I mention I am still not feeling well?

Who could be uncheered by Una O’Connor?

I did not have to look up Una O’Connor’s name.  Regarding the caption, “who could be uncheered by” is a quote from Winnie the Pooh.  Either Pooh or Piglet said it regarding a balloon, but I change out the object to fit the situation.  Alert readers may remember me using the expression before.

In his defense, he wasn’t wrong.

I thought I might as well make it three pictures from the same movie.  Maybe if I go to bed early tonight I will feel good enough for a better blog post tomorrow.  But no promises.  After all, it will be Lame Post Friday.

Ladies and Lionel on Wuss-out Wednesday

Mid-Week Monsters it is!  I am even more tired then I was on Tired Tuesday!  I’m thinking this is actually going to be Wuss-out Wednesday With Monsters.  These things happen when one tries to be a daily blogger.  At least when one is me.

I could rock that hair do.

Looking at Elsa Lanchester as The Bride of Frankenstein, I begin to question my plan to get a hair cut.  If I kept growing my hair, I bet I could be the Bride for Halloween 2020.  Since Oct. 20 of that year will be my 30th wedding anniversary,  I think that would be a good costume for me.

Great cheesy movie.

Just to continue the female monster theme, here is Wasp Woman.  I wrote a blog post about that one.  I would link back to it, but I cannot recall the title and am too lazy to search for it.

I loves me some Lionel Barrymore.

This is Lionel Barrymore in Devil Doll.  He is in disguise as a woman.  I don’t remember who the miniature woman is.  It is a pretty good flick, not surprisingly,  with the great Lionel Barrymore.

Ooh! Scary!

To conclude with a monstrous female, here is the witchy Mrs, Newliss in Horror Hotel.   I know, I ought to look up the actress’ name.  Oh, what do you want from me on Wuss-out Wednesday?

Missing Mojo on Tired Tuesday

I had a vague idea of making a Running Commentary post today.  It was another reason to get myself out the door and moving.  I seem to have lost my running mojo without taking an extended break from it, as I have in the past.  I have run both weekend days every weekend within recent memory, until this past weekend.  Once again I have to ask, What the Hell, me?

Oh let’s be honest, I have lost all kinds of mojo lately: running, writing, housework, theatre… do I have any other kinds of mojo?  Unfortunately I do not see how I can write about my missing mojo without sounding like a whiny baby.  I don’t know why I worry so much about sounding like a whiny baby,  especially since that is what I must sound like more often than I admit.

Where was I? I sat down with my Tablet with all good intentions of making a Running Commentary post.  I guess the road to bad blog posts is paved with good intentions.  So here I am with yet another foolish blog post.

I point out to my vicious inner critic that I did run today, and for further than I thought I would (not a vast amount, but I did demonstrate perseverance) and I did a load of laundry.  And now I have done a blog post of at least 200 words.  Wasn’t I saying earlier this week that I must learn to write despite whatever is wrong with me?  It is true!  Mojo or no, I shall persevere!
