Is It Too Late for a Throwback Thursday?

I guess late posts are a thing with me, so here I am on Friday morning making a Throwback Thursday Post.   I like these posts where I troll my Media Library for pictures and think of things to say about them.  It’s fun.

“Whooo doesn’t like Throwback Thursday Post?”

How about some seasonal cuteness?  We used to decorate for Thanksgiving.  It was an easy transition from Halloween, since many of the decorations could just stand.

These can count for both Halloween and Thanksgiving!

Here is a little group I always loved.  See, the bigger scarecrows are boyfriend and girlfriend, and the smaller one is the boy scarecrow’s little brother.  The girl scarecrow thinks the little brother is adorable so is happy to see him.  The boy scarecrow is less thrilled, because he wants to kiss.  Yes, I make up stories about anything and everything.

I’m afraid it’s hard to see the details.

I had to make this a Theatre Throwback as well, by using a picture that includes the lobby poster from Leading Ladies, the play I directed at Ilion Little Theatre.  You can also see we kept a little Halloween, including some skeletons.

I love Thanksgiving and feel a little sad that it kind of gets lost by the wayside, as so many people want to jump right into Christmas.  Some of them can’t even wait till after Halloween!  But let me not get into a rant about slowing down about and enjoying ourselves.  For one reason, I am over 200 words.  I need to get on with my Friday.

I Try to Make a Blog Post

A blogging question: if the post I made yesterday morning counted as Tuesday’s post, will a post I make this morning count for yesterday?  Second question:  does the first question merely call attention my failure to post Saturday and Sunday?   Third question:  am I completely flattering myself to think anybody notices or cares when I do or do not make a blog post?

Yes, I am once again writing about not writing.  I am having a hard time writing about anything else, and, yes, I have tried.  Oh, please do not quote Yoda at me!  A co-worker once did that to me.  For the Star Wars illiterates, if any (and I confess, I personally did not see all the movies), the quote I am talking about is, “Do or do not.  There is no try.”

“Don’t go Yoda on me!”  I said.

“Talk backwards I did not,” he replied, in a Yoda-like voice.

Have I shared that story before?

Anyways, the problem I have with “there is no try” is this:  There is too!  You can sit on your butt and do nothing; that is not even trying.  Or you can make an attempt and fail.  At least you tried!

That last paragraph brought me to exactly 200 words.  I’m going to call this a Wuss-out Wednesday Post.  At least I tried!

Sunday Stroll, Post-Pedestrian Post

I took a walk with my phone on Sunday, thinking to make a Pedestrian Post. I don’t see any reason not to makes the post now (for the record, it is early Wednesday morning and I failed to make my Tired Tuesday post) (me and my obsession with accuracy).  Sunday was perhaps the last beautiful unseasonably warm day, and I decided to take advantage of it, waiting till the sun was up to take my stroll.

I suppose it would be a stay-cation if I stayed here, but I would like to.

On a walk some time ago, I wanted to get a picture of the Grand Colonial Bed and Breakfast, to give them a shout-out, but could not get a good shot from across the street.  Sunday, I was on the right side of the road.  I have been inside there (when I wrote about them for Mohawk Valley Living magazine).  It is beautiful!  And I’ve seen the breakfast menu: Wow!

Another view.

Continuing down German Street, I turned left onto Main.  I wanted to walk up the hill, where it is only open to local and pedestrian traffic.  I like the exertion of walking up a hill, although I admit I can get too much of a good thing.

As usual, the picture does not seem as steep as it seems to me when I am walking or running up it.

They recently paved it.  I wondered if that means they are going to do something about the area on top of the hill, where the road is partially collapsed.

This section has been collapsed for some time now.

I see they added a branch to the barricade.  As usual, I interpreted it to mean it was closed to vehicular traffic, not middle-aged pedestrian ladies (other pedestrians, too, of course, but I was the only one there at the time).

Pretty!

As I continued my walk, I took care to appreciate the color that yet remains on our trees.  This time of year, I feel I must just look and look, because it lasts such a short time.

I don’t know why this caught my eye.

Bare trees and dead trees have a fascination for me, too.  I will probably share a lot of pictures of bare branches against the sky in future Pedestrian Posts.  To me, it never gets old.

I maybe should have gotten to this tree earlier in the season.

I have been admiring this particular tree for a while.  So big!  So bright!

I enjoyed my walk very much, and I see I have gotten a 400 word blog post out of it.  That’s long for Mohawk Valley Girl!  I hope my readers have enjoyed it.

I Never Whine About Monsters

I am having yet another patch of bad blogging days.  I do not wish to offer whiny excuses.  At least,  I would like to excuse myself but do not want to be whiny.  Oh dear, I am whining already.  I hate when I do that!  Quick, throw in a monster picture to distract us from it.

“Just thought I’d come out and — what’s this? DAYLIGHT???”

There is my favorite guy,  Nosferatu.  I do not know if he is coming out into daylight in that shot or not.  Additionally,  I understand that in actual vampire folklore, vampires do not crumble to dust in daylight, but their powers are considerably weakened.  The movies made up the dramatic daylight deaths, and I must say, some of them are very dramatic.  If I ever finish any of my novels about vampires, I will probably keep the crumble to dust rule.

That’s what I needed! A large beer!

Having successfully backed into my Monstrous Monday Post,  I add a photo emphasizing my Thank-God-I-made-it-through-Monday state of mind.  It was not a heinous day, but it does not always take a heinous day to wear one out.  Not whining about it, merely commenting on the fact.

The Bride and I have a lot in common.

When I get to this point in the post (that is, around the 200-word mark), I wonder if I should go back and take out the whiny introductory paragraph.  After all, all the best writers edit their work.  As a matter of fact, I have been editing as I go.  You should have seen some of the whiny sentences I backspaced out!  And I usually give it at least another reading before hitting publish.  Editing out all my bad parts — not the badly written parts (what, me have badly written parts?  Say it ain’t so!) but the parts where I admit bad things about myself– seems less than honest.  This is, after all, a personal blog.  This is me, as a person.

Sometimes I prefer the monsters.

What Kind of Post? It’s a Mystery!

This is a Post-Rehearsal Post, a Throwback Thursday Post, and still under the heading of All He Laughed Himself to Death All The Time.  Hey, that makes this a Non-Sequitur Thursday Post as well!  Or am I spreading myself too thin?  Oh yeah, like I could ever be thin!  Maybe if I go back on the South Beach Diet for a LONG time!  But never mind that, on with the post!

We had an excellent rehearsal for He Laughed Himself to Death, the murder mystery we are putting on to benefit the Herkimer County Historical Society in a mere two days.  I think it will be a lot of fun.

A suspicious bunch, to say the least!

Since I once again neglected to take any pictures at tonight’s rehearsal, I thought I would pep up the post with a picture from a previous murder mystery.  This was the cast of A G.R.A.V.E. Murder, which we presented a few years ago, also to benefit the historical society.  You see, this is where Throwback Thursday comes in.

A dramatic moment, captured on film.

Here is a rehearsal shot from another murder mystery, whose title escapes me.  How embarrassing.  All I can really think about, though, is how much better I liked my hair in that ultra-short ‘do (I am the one on the far left).

Be all that as it may, I repeat for the benefit of local readers that He Laughed Himself to Death will be presented Saturday, Nov. 5, at the Herkimer Elks Club, 124 Mary St., Herkimer, NY.  Doors open at 5:30 p.m.  Tickets are $35 and are available at the Herkimer County Historical Society, 315-866-6413.

Rehearsal Was a Laugh

Last night I meant to take pictures of our rehearsal for He Laughed Himself to Death, the murder mystery we are putting on to benefit the Herkimer County Historical Society this Saturday.  Alas, I was so busy acting, I forgot.

I think it is time for this blog to become All He Laughed Himself to Death All The Time.  After all, it is only three days (Yikes!) till performance.

Hey, it’s a graphic.

This pretty much tells you all you need to know.  The mystery is a pretty silly story.  I guess most of mine are.  This one concerns a novelty joke company called Gorman’s Gotchas.  We are at a stockholders meeting to discuss a proposed merger with a much larger entity called Consolidated Realignment Associated Products.  Norman Gorman, founder and president of the company is late.  We do hope nothing untoward has happened to him.

Rehearsals are going well.  I have a good cast, and we are all excited for the show.  If you live nearby, I hope you will consider coming to see us!

Anyways, Happy Halloween!

So I missed posting on both Saturday and Sunday,  and here I sit on Halloween morning, wanting to at least post a note to my loyal readers (also unloyal, chance, random and any other readers), just to say… what? I’m still alive?  Thank you for reading?  I know! Happy Halloween!

Witchy says Happy Halloween, too!

How about some Halloween pictures, to help obscure the fact that I have very little to say.

Wow I have a lot of Halloween stuff!

Here is a shot from when we got really elaborate with our decorating.  Will we ever be this ambitious again?

More fun stuff!

We also got into the toys that sang and danced.  Good times!

He’s so cute!

A favorite decoration:  my friend Marsha sent me the pot, my husband Steve got me the vampire, and it is an orange t-shirt I never particularly liked (it had a logo from a place I did not enjoy working at, but that is a whole other story).

I think this was before we finished decorating.

This picture showed up in my On This Day on Facebook.  It is one of my favorites.  I find it is symbolic, because there is Santa Claus in the background, knowing it is his turn next.  Full disclosure: that Santa sits on my staircase all year long.

My pictures have helped me get to over 200 words.  Score!  And Happy Halloween!

Too Much Lame On My Hands

How did it get to be seven o’clock on Saturday morning?  I know, in the usual way. And in the increasingly usual way, I am making my Lame Post Friday post late.  These things happen.

Here is something that occurred to me as I typed the preceding:  we always say “o’clock.” Nobody ever says “of the clock.”  At least I never hear them do it.  I guess that is one of those lost positives I have heard about, like “ept.”

Speaking of “ept,”  my most often heard lost positive, I think it is not really one.  I believe the positive form on “inept” is “adept.”  I thought of that all by myself.  Of course, I am no linguist and could be full of beans.  Somebody who really knows etymology (that is the right word; I looked it up) could probably set me straight.  I do not mind at all if anybody cares to be didactic about it in the comments.

Incidentally, while I typed in the line about thinking of it myself, I could practically hear somebody saying, “Got a lot of time on your hands, do you?”  This is a bit of condescension I think we could all do without.  I have been guilty of it myself and now that I think about it, I decide that I am going to try to stop saying it.  And for the record, I do not have a lot of time on my hands but often leave things undone while my mind chases these convoluted thoughts.

I see I am getting to 250 words.  Lame words?  Well I think that is the point of Lame Post Friday.

Will I Have the Last Laugh?

I meant to make a post using more pictures taken on a recent walk, but those pictures are on my phone and here I am on my Tablet.  Still, the phone is on the coffee table.  I could pick it up and look…

Or not.  My only purpose now is to make a Post-Rehearsal Post.  And I might even eat an ice cream cone out of the freezer before I do so.

It is not actually chocolate running down this head.

I put in an unrelated picture to show the passage of time while I ate ice cream.  I do not remember if I actually used this picture to give a shout-out to Yettys Pizza and Pasta of Herkimer, NY.  I must look at my past posts and make sure I have done so.

Did somebody say murder mystery?

I scrolled through my Media Library till I found a picture of a murder mystery, because the rehearsal I was at was for a murder mystery: He Laughed Himself to Death.  It will be presented on Saturday, Nov. 5, at Herkimer Elks Lodge, to benefit Herkimer County Historical Society.

I just now copied this from Facebook.

Now I have given a proper shout-out to the murder mystery.   I am going to bill this as a Non-Sequitur Thursday Post,  because I have been a little all over the place.  If only I could think of a sufficiently random headline, my life would be perfect.
