Who Got Rubbed Out?

Hello, and welcome to another Throwback Thursday Post.  What will I throw back to this week?  No doubt something I have thrown back to before, but you’ll have that.

Would you trust her?

This is my friend Laura as the vampish Zelda Helsinki in Rubbed Out at Ruby’s,  one of my favorite murder mysteries.  I think I need to do another 1920’s one.  The clothes are so fun!

They all look like murderers to me!

Here is the whole cast, including my late, dearly missed husband Steve (in the back, third from the right) (oh, I guess he’s third from the left, too).  They were all great people to work with.

They might be holding me up, but you can’t prove that at this late date.

I might as well make it a Ruby trifecta.  Here I am, in red, between two Kims.

The chalk outline looks like he’s dancing.

It seems I do not have a whole lot to say, so I put in another cast photo.

Wait a minute! She wasn’t in the cast!

This is the picture I had meant to open with, because I have spent the last few days sweltering, as have many people.  I think my brain got steamed, which could explain my inability to think of much to say.  However, I see I am over 200 words.  Score!  Stay hydrated, everyone!

Friends, Music, Why Not on a Wednesday?

Yes, I went to Fratello’s Pizzeria in Frankfort again tonight.  For one reason, it was beastly hot out and I wanted some AC.  For another reason,  one of my favorite local musicians, Phil Arcuri,  was playing.

I still think my phone does not take good pictures.

Of course I took my obligatory shot of Phil playing and posted it in Facebook, inviting all to come down and hear.  I guess this does not reach so many people, since my Facebook privacy settings are high (at least so I think they are). Still, one does what one can,

My work friend, Kathy, joined me.  We had a nice visit and shared some garlic bread with Mozzarella cheese.  Yum!

Recent photo that is still apropos.

Bartender Gino took very good care of us.  The picture is from Sunday,  but I suppose nobody will mind me stretching a point.

We had a wonderful time, eating, listening to music, and visiting.  Sometimes I wonder if I really ought to be running around so many nights, but then I think to myself, “Why not?” What is the point of life if not to have fun time with friends?   I suppose some people can cone up with a better point.  If so, please make a comment.  I will address it in a future blog post.

No Music, But Food and Fun!

After enjoying Brookwood Summer Market on Sunday, my friend Kim and I were hungry so went to Fratello’s Pizzeria in Frankfort for a snack.  We brought the bouquets we had purchased at the market.  The bartender nicely gave us cups to put them in.

The obligatory shot of me toasting.

As you can see, I got myself a pair of fingerless gloves from Herkimer Handknits.  It is the second pair for me, but I have yet to get a good picture of the first pair (preview of coming attractions).

This is Kim toasting her bouquet.

Kim did not purchase gloves but instead found this gorgeous bracelet.  I may have to borrow it sometime.

Isn’t she cute?

Here is our excellent bartender.   I asked her name but foolishly did not write it down.

And of course Gino was there.

As long as I was getting pictures, I snapped one of Gino.

Kim and I enjoyed calamari, French fries, and chicken wings.  She also got a wrap sandwich but only ate a bite or so.  She took the rest home to enjoy later.  I brought home a few chicken wings myself (and have already eaten them).

While we were there, I asked about upcoming musical entertainment.  Phil Arcuri will be there Wednesday (that’s tomorrow!) And the Playin’ Again Band will be there Friday.  Can I go to Fratello’s three times in one week?  It could happen!

Blame it on my Brain

I was so pleased with myself for making on time posts Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, then I let it all fall apart on Monday.  I have no good excuse.  I sat here and typed in one sentence, even going so far as to transfer a couple of pictures from my cell phone into my Media Library.  But my brain would not cooperate and I was unable to force it.

My brain would and did.

I watched this movie yesterday, but not on Blu-Ray.

There’s the picture I was looking for!

Regular readers know I like to share a picture from The Brain from the Planet Arous when I am feeling particularly brain dead (my brain is not what you might call lively at the best of times).  In a sad development, I found and tried to watch my VHS tape of the movie (purchased at a rummage sale) only to find that the VCR half of my video/DVD player is not working.  So sad!  I will never be able to replace all those cheesy movies on VHS that I found at rummage sales!

So this is my late Monstrous Monday Post.  A couple of brain pictures and a technological lament.  Perhaps I could find just one more picture to end on.

He’s just misunderstood.

This is the most sympathetic character in The Brain That Wouldn’t Die.  I hope he has good vision.  I would hate to try to fit him with a pair of glasses.

Fun at Brookwood Market

I thought I might have a Scattered Sunday Post when I took a walk to Brookwood Summer Market in Herkimer, NY.  I had taken another walk earlier and thought to get together with my friend Kim later for further shenanigans.

Tom Maneen, he is fine, yes!

I walked around the vendors and enjoyed music by Tom Maneen.  However, I was hoping to return later with Kim and with more money to spend.

You can’t see their wares from here.

I wandered around and took a couple of pictures.

Still, you can see the tents.

There were a number of vendors with tempting wares.  I needed to get myself to an ATM and get some cash.

I got some extra exercise strolling by the market.  Spoiler alert:  I did return later with Kim and bought a few things, Kim nicely driving me to an ATM first.  We adjourned to Fratello’s Pizzeria in Frankfort where we took a couple of pictures of our purchases.  I will let that form the substance of tomorrow’s blog post.

Brookwood Summer Market runs on alternate Sundays in Brookwood Park in Herkimer, NY through October.   You can catch them September 17, October 1 and 15.  You can follow them on Facebook for more information.

Brown Eyed Green Space?

Last week I did fine on making my Saturday and Sunday posts on their respective days.  This week I fear, not so much.  I made my Lame Post Friday post on Friday, and it is still Saturday as I begin my Saturday post, but will I finish it?  A little uncertainty adds interest to my weekend.

A few blooms to brighten my yard.

Earlier today as I left my house to walk somewhere to do something, I noticed some Brown-Eyed Susans had sprouted in my front lawn.  I previously cut down what I believed to be this plant in the back yard before any blooms appeared, because I felt the greenery was growing out of control.  The blooms pictured above sneaked in.  I took the picture with my phone and am pleased it turned out as well as it did, both the picture and the plant.

Greener than it was and may becone greener yet.

As I walked downtown, I paused to take a picture of the new green space in town where a Quackenbush building used to be.  Said building collapsed some time ago and the space was pretty much an eyesore till recently.  I am pleased it is looking better now.

I guess I will call this a Scattered Saturday Post, although there is not a whole lot of Scatter to it.  Still, it is over 200 words and I am making it on Saturday.   I say, Score!

I Do Not Labor For My Pre-Labor Day Friday Lame Post

Can I make my Lame Post Friday post while it is still Friday?  Let us see.

My headache was gone when I arose this morning, only for my back to be stiff and painful.  What the hell, body?   I had to go to work; if you call in sick just before a three-day weekend, they do not pay you for the holiday.  Still, I find a backache easier to deal with than a headache, so I counted my blessings.  Then the backache abated before I left for work, so Score!

Work was not heinous.  It rarely is, so I have that going for me.  After work, I enjoyed wine on the front porch with my friend Kim.  I continued to sip a little indoors after Kim went home.  I also enjoyed a DVD of Columbo. Who doesn’t love a little murder and mayhem to start the weekend right?

Love that raincoat.

Looking forward to my three-day weekend (don’t hate me, those of you who do not get one; I too suffered years of such abuse), I wonder what I can do that will make a better blog post.  I can think of a few possibilities, but I make no promises.  I may spend my time watching cheesy movies and drinking champagne.  I have a couple of bottles in the fridge for just such a contingency.

One of my favorites!

Incidentally, this is far from the worst movie ever made.  Have I written a blog post about it?  That might be a worthy labor on Labor Day weekend.

Don’t Blame The Posers!

I know what some of you are going to think: I partied too hearty listening to The Posers last night.  I did not think I did!  Yes, I had some Chardonnay.  I figured I went to the Legion to hear a band, I should give them a little business, right?  Unfortunately, I had a dreadful headache all day and am taking a Blogger’s Sick Day now.

Different summer, different band.

I threw in a picture to make this a Throwback Thursday Post as well as a Blogger’s Sick Day.  Wow.  I almost said Wayback Wednesday.  See how a headache can mess me up?  Anyways, this is the Playin’ Again band, who I enjoyed hearing at Fratello’s Pizzeria in Frankfort a couple of times two summers ago. Regular readers know I usually go to Fratello’s on Wednesday night.  Last night I guess I mixed it up a little.

And here are The Posers again.

I close with a shot of The Posers last February at Ilion Elks Lodge.  Now I will take my headache to bed.  I’m sure I will feel better in the morning.

Mid-Week Music in Mohawk

I just got back from Mohawk American Legion where I enjoyed listening to my favorite local band, The Posers.  I took a couple of pictures with my phone, but they did not come out very well.  I wonder if I have some other pictures in my Media Library.

Not the best picture, but it will have to do.

This is a picture taken at the Mohawk American Legion a few years ago.  You can’t see the band members very well, I’m afraid.

Another venue, another view.

Here is a better shot, taken at the Herkimer Downtown Chow Down last summer.  The Posers’ gig there got cancelled because of weather this year.  I believe they are supposed to try again before the summer is over.  I will try to be there.

You can see my buddy Rick DeJohn in this one!

As a matter of fact, The Posers were supposed to be at Ilion Food Truck Frenzy this evening.  It was cancelled due to weather, so the band played at the Mohawk American Legion.

I had a delightful time this evening dancing and listening.  I even made a couple of new friends by sitting down at a table that was only partially occupied.

It was a different Wednesday night for me, since I usually go to Fratello’s Pizzeria in Frankfort for music and food, but I still enjoyed some wonderful music.

Do Not Enter? Ha!

Hello and welcome to another Tired Tuesday Post.

Oh dear, I typed in that one sentence, and now I am blank.  A result of being tired?  Let’s pretend it is.

Spoiler Alert: I entered.

When I took my walk this morning, I went down the street pictured above, purely for the sake of entering where it said not to.  Regular readers know I am a great fan of doing that.   I have been trying to walk every day, at least for a short time.  Really, I do not know how I went from training to run a 15K to struggling to complete a 20-minute walk, but so it is.  I went as long as 40 minutes on Sunday and felt pretty good about that.

After more than ten years at it, it seems I am also struggling to make daily blog posts, and when I do make them daily, to make them interesting.  However, with writing as with running (and, let’s face it, most things), I feel one must persevere.

A little inspiration to encourage my perseverance .

I looked in my Media Library for another picture to pep things up and found this profound thought.  I am trying to get back to writing more fiction, beginning with a couple murder mystery scripts then perhaps getting into a novel.  Can it all start with a blog post?  I think so.  Persevere, Cindy! Persevere!
