Terrified of Tired Tuesday?

I’m afraid this is another Tired Tuesday Post, but since I did not have a Monstrous Monday this Monday or last, I thought a couple beasts might brighten up the blog.

Eeeee! Call the exterminator!

Many people have a fear or at least a squeamishness regarding bugs.  These are fake, of course.  I believe they were props for Donate to Murder, a mystery of mine which featured the memorable character, Renwick Spaulding, lover of bugs.

And here is Bruce, the shark from JAWS, a favorite summer flick of mine.  I have not watched it yet this summer.  It was one my husband Steve and I always watched together, often on the Fourth of July, a date which was featured prominently in the movie.

And speaking of going swimming…

Here is a good one:  The Creature from the Black Lagoon with the lovely Julie Adams.  I understand she was as lovely in character as she was in looks.  That is always nice to hear.

I shall just mention that one reason I am so tired is that two days in a row, I fought the lawn, and the lawn won.  I keep telling myself that the lawn may win the battles but I shall win the war.  I hope to share pictures when I do.

In the meantime, I have gotten over 200 words.  That is sufficient, according to my rules for me by me.  Since I included monsters, perhaps I should add a category of Terror Tuesday.  Hmmm.  It may be a little strong, but at least it is alliterative.  Oh wait! I see I already have a category of Terrifying Tuesday.  Shows how much I pay attention.

Perhaps I Should Have Left It Blank

I am sitting here staring at a blank space and feeling that my mind is equally blank.

Well, I thought that if I typed in something, anything (pecking it out one letter at a time with the stylus, of course), I could go on from there.   Sometimes these little tricks work.  Sometimes not so much.  However,  I want to make a blog post.  I will attempt to make a blog post.

I throw in a picture to pep things up. Earlier I watched Creature from the Black Lagoon on a DVR’d episode of Svengoolie.  I loves me some Svengoolie.

I know how she feels.

This is also not the picture I was looking for.  However, sometimes I like to jump on the I Hate Monday bandwagon.  I personally will not be pouring myself such a measure of booze.  I had a little wine earlier, but not enough to render Monday even more hideous than it is forced to be by nature.

Speaking of wine, here is a picture of my sadly missed husband, Steve, enjoying a libation at the Waterfront Grille in Herkimer, NY.  My friend Kim and I had a couple drinks at the Waterfront yesterday.  Did I mention that in my Scattered Saturday Post?   It is far too much trouble to go back and look.

I guess I can bill this as a Wrist to Forehead Sunday Post, because I must sound like I am about to swoon, dramatically posed with the back of one wrist to my forehead.  I will try for a little less drama tomorrow.

Depression is Monstrous

I started a blog post last night but did not finish it (obviously).  I tried to finish it this morning but got bogged down in a morass of words about being depressed.  It felt whiny and pointless, so I stopped (although I did save it for possible future use).  I want to publish something, so I am going to throw in a few monster pictures and call this a Monstrous Blogger’s Sick Day (depression is an illness, although I feel somewhat fraudulent using it as an excuse) (never mind that, on with the post).

This is from Carnival of Souls, an excellent example of how a movie can be quite unsettling on a low budget and minimum of special effects (you know, it is much easier to italicize words with a mouse than on a Tablet) (just to throw in a little computer chatter).

My depression looming over me? Only I do not look that good in a bathing suit.

A little Creature from the Black Lagoon never hurt anybody.  Some people find it helpful to picture their depression as an animal that follows them around.  I wonder if a mind trick like that would help me.  I could picture it as a monster and make friends with it.

“Hi, Depression. Nice suit. Green suits you.”

Maybe not.

Invasion of the Happiness Snatchers?

Or I could fight my depression with a pitchfork, and a little help from my friends.  The pitchfork only provided temporary relief in Invasion of the Body Snatchers, but it certainly made for a dramatic moment.  Regular readers know I love drama.  I wonder if the pod people could be worked up to a full metaphor for depression.  That might be something to play with sometime.

And now I see I am approaching 300 words, with very little effort and only a minimum of whining.  I will make a greater effort toward even less whining, and as always try for a better blog post next time.  Once again, thank you for tuning in.

Snail Mail to Cinema Saturday

I am still not up to having Mohawk Valley Adventures, so no Scattered Saturday Post. However, my husband, Steven, suggested I write a few lines about the Creature from the Black Lagoon. I did not italicize it, because I mean the character not the movie.

I saw on Facebook that Ricou Browning, the actor that played the Creature, was not doing very well, and his family was asking for cards or letters to cheer him up. Snail mail is right up my alley! When I was writing my usual Saturday morning post cards to my post card peeps, I included one for Mr. Browning.

Later on, when we got to the movie watching portion of the day, we found that we had on DVR the episode of Svengoolie when he showed Revenge of the Creature. Perfect!

I need a rubber chicken.

After the Creature, we stuck with Svengoolie and watched Tarantula. As regular readers may remember, we DVR Svengoolie every week so have a few episodes to spare.

I forgot I had this in my Media Library.

After the giant spider was dispatched (should I have included a Spoiler Alert? My bad), we stuck with our DVR with Mad Love, which we recorded from TCM.

It is delightfully creepy.

Also on our DVR were a few episodes of Columbo from the sadly brief time that MeTV showed them (here’s a Fruedian autocorrect: MeTV became Meth. A commentary on the addictive nature of television?). We love Columbo.

Peter Falk is so cool.

It seems I have segued into a Saturday Cinema Post. Well, why not? I am over 250 words and included pictures. I call that a respectable post. Happy Saturday, everyone!

Monsters after Migraine

I look like one and feel like the other.

I am at the end (I hope) of a day long migraine but do not want to miss making a blog post. I thought I could manage a Throwback Thursday Post then thought it had been a while since I did monsters. How about Throwback Monsters? It! Could! Work! (That is a quote from Young Frankenstein, in case you didn’t know.)

“This is a good boy!”

I can tell I am getting old, because I can remember when Young Frankenstein was in theatres, and now it is an old movie. Perhaps we could substitute the term “vintage.”

“Who me? Old?”

Here is an even more vintage monster, my favorite, Nosferatu. He is scary, yes.

“Swimming, anyone?”

My post is becoming increasingly random as I just look for monsters and put them in. I say it is better than spending the entire post whining about my migraine. Is it? Discuss amongst yourselves.

I Take a Break on Wrist to Forehead Sunday

I am having yet another Wrist to Forehead Sunday.  If only I had a chaise lounge, I would swoon on it in a most dramatic fashion.  Alas, I could not stay there for a week or more, which is what I feel I need to do.

I went running this morning.  It was not a bad run, and I petted a few dogs along the way.  I thought of doing a Sunday Running Commentary post,  but my ennui overcame me long before I could put stylus to Tablet or fingers to keyboard.

Steven and I went on a minor Mohawk Valley Adventure,  to Napoli’s Italian Bakery and Deli in Uitca.  I must write a blog post about that, perhaps even an article for Mohawk Valley Living magazine (the deadline is tomorrow. Yikes!).

Good food there!

Returning home, we watched an episode of Svengoolie featuring Revenge of the Creature.  It was nowhere near as good as Creature of the Black Lagoon.  No Julie Adams, and a nice dog came to a bad end.  We hate that!

What, I ask you, is the good of the Creature of the Black Lagoon without Julie Adams?

We looked at an episode or two of Snapped while we had something to eat, and are now watching Sudden Fear with Joan Crawford, Jack Palance and Gloria Grahame.

I am revisiting the question I asked on Lame Post Friday.  Do I cut myself too many breaks?  I still do not know.  However, I am over 250 words.  I call that OK.  Happy Sunday, everyone!

Shakespeare to Svengoolie to Julie

The Blogger’s Sick Days continue, but there is light at the end of the tunnel, although there is always the possibility that it is an oncoming train.  Be that as it may, I am sitting on my couch, watching a DVR’d episode of Svengoolie and hoping to make some semblance of a blog post.

I have been feeling marginally better.  Whereas on Friday, my head was in pain, today it was more lightheaded.  Comforting myself with the fact that having been on antibiotics for at least 24 hours I was not contagious (although I believe sinus infections are not contagious to begin with),  I went to the second session of Brainstorming the Bard at Meeples Mug House in Little Falls.

We made a little more progress in our quest to bring Shakespeare back to Little Falls this summer.  I shall blog more about that later (ooh, here’s a Freudian typo: I first typed “bore” instead of “more”).

In the meantime,  how about a couple more pictures of the Creature?  I just love a good monster movie.

Julie Adams certainly was a lovely young lady.  She was so gracious to fans of this movie all her life.  I was very sad to hear when she passed away fairly recently.

And here she is in later years, still lovely and gracious.

I’m afraid this is not a particularly Scattered Saturday post.  Then again, my health, Shakespeare,  Svengoolie,  Julie Adams.  It will have to do.  Happy Saturday,  everyone!

R.I.P., Julie Adams

In lieu of this week’s Monstrous Monday post, I bid a sad farewell to the star of one of Steven’s and my favorite monster movies, Creature of the Black Lagoon (1954). Julie Adams passed away Sunday, Feb. 3, at age 92.  I followed Official Julie Adams Facebook page, and I loved how gracious she was.  She appeared in many movies and television shows, but she was reportedly delighted that she was best known for Creature.

She was still lovely.

I don’t know how recently she was making personal appearances, but I did wish I could make it to one.

You could not blame the Creature for being enamored.

I did not really know Julie Adams for anything other than Creature and her Facebook page, so I cannot do a real biography.  I guess I can’t say much besides I was a fan, and I’m sad she’s gone.

It’s nice to see when antagonistic co-stars are friends off-screen.

I noticed on the Facebook page that she and her son, Mitchell Danton, published the book, Lucky Southern Star: Reflections from the Black Lagoon.  I’ll have to look for a copy.

I guess I’ll close with a picture of her co-star.  Steven and I will no doubt watch the movie again soon, in memory.

Add Monsters and Stir. I Mean, Hit Publish

How about some Mid-Week Monsters?  It’s a new feature, for when I forgo Monstrous Monday.  It is, in fact, another Pre-Rehearsal Post (I guess that could be a category, too), because we are soon to leave for rehearsal for Donate to Murder, the murder mystery dinner theatre LiFT, Little Falls Theatre Company, is presenting at Herkimer Elks this Saturday, Sept. 15.  Steven and I are wearing our costumes, although I do not have pantyhose on (I’m certain my character would wear pantyhose).  Also, I could not find my grandmother’s pearls, which I thought would work for my character (full disclosure: they are not real pearls, but they look nice).  Luckily I have TONS of beads, vintage and otherwise.

What a long first paragraph.  I do babble on, don’t I?  I thought this was going to be a monster post.  Let’s see what I can find.

Look, I can also include a foreign language lesson.  Sometimes I can so multi-task (although most days I barely manage just to task).  Steven and I just watched Creature from the Black Lagoon on Sunday.  Perhaps you read my blog post in which I mentioned it.  And while we’re visiting foreign countries…

I think this one has better artwork, but I like the lettering in the Spanish version.

And look at me, over 200 words on a Wuss-out Wednesday (I guess this post fits multiple categories).  I do like to include three pictures, so I will pull something from my Media Library.

I never knew the Creature guest starred on The Love Boat. I suppose he is quite an actor. Perhaps I could use him in a murder mystery sometime.

All Wet on Wednesday

Feeling yet unable to write a real post and noting that I did not indulge in a Monstrous Monday, I thought I would let a few of our creepy friends cheer me up a little.  Since I adore alliteration (see what I did there?), I declare today Watery Wednesday and I search for creatures from the deep.  Or even the shallow, to match my mind.

“Oh, THAT’S where I left my lady in a bathing suit!”

Who doesn’t love Creature from the Black Lagoon (1954)?  Oh, I suppose YOU don’t (you know who you are).  Julie Adams (pictured here with the green guy) (I’m guessing he’s green; the movie was black-and-white) is one of my Likes on Facebook.  She comes across as a very gracious lady.

Less gracious but still all wet is the title character from JAWS (1975). I loves me some JAWS.

This is Lake Placid (1999), a movie I really like.  I was looking for a shot of the alligator but could not find one.

My mood is, alas, not improving, so I shall close with a darker but still wet movie.  Carnival of Souls (1962) begins with a rather horrifying scene involving a muddy river.
