What Was I Using My Brain For?

I am taking a Blogger’s Sick Day.  I did not even make it through a full day at work.  I know what some of you are thinking:  that I overindulged at Fratello’s Pizzeria in Frankfort last night and paid the price today.  It’s not true!  I indulged the exact same amount as usual, perhaps a little less than sometimes since I avoided deep fried anything.  I feel most ill-used.

Who could be un-cheered by Tucker?

I thought I would throw in a picture to pep things up, before I was lost in a morass of whining.  This is from September 2018, making this also a Throwback Thursday Post.  It is my friend Tucker as Renwick Spaulding in Donate to Murder,  the character and mystery I referenced on Tuesday, if anybody remembers.

I can’t really settle my mind to this post.  It’s my stomach that is doing me dirt.  I can’t help thinking that if I only ate or drank the right thing, I would feel better.  However, if the Ginger Ale I got out of the machine at work didn’t help, I have no great hopes of the food I have in the house.  Uh oh, whining again.  Quick, throw in another picture.

Nice side eye.

Here is a shot from The Brain That Wouldn’t Die,  one of my favorite cheesy horror movies.  My brain would and did.  However, I think the picture also qualifies this as  Non-Sequitur Thursday Post.  Who says I can’t multi-task?

Maybe The Blog Post Should Have Stayed Absent

Yesterday was a true Blogger’s Sick Day.  I even called in sick to work, which I rarely do.  It was a migraine.  You know, one of those headaches where the only thing you can do is Have a Headache. It makes for a long, singularly unproductive day.

Now it is Friday morning, I am sipping coffee, and feeling tremuluosly happy NOT to have a headache.  Who knew the absence of something could feel so good?  Oh wait, I knew it, from previous migraine-free days.

Steve had a Get Out of Jail Free Card.

I threw in a picture to pep things up.  Here is my late husband Steven outside the 1834 Jail on Herkimer’s Historic Four Corners,  which regular readers know is one of my favorite places to walk or run by.

One of my all-time favorite couples.

Since I am apparently doing a Throwback Thursday Post,  here is a shot from July 2017 of our friends Jim and Phyllis at Gerber’s 1933 Tavern.  Phyllis sadly passed away in 2021.  I will never be done missing her, either.  One must treasure the memories.

And here’s all four of us.

What a weird post this is turning into.  I begin being happy my headache is gone and move on to being sad Steve and Phyllis are gone. There is a lesson or profound point in there somewhere, but I have had insufficient coffee to articulate it.  I guess I’ll bill this as a Non-Sequitur Thursday Post and drive on.  I hope to see you all later when I attempt a Lame Post Friday post.

What Were We Talking About?

I am sitting here playing with the predictive text thingy and typing things in and backspacing them out.  I have had a headache all day, but it was not bad enough to make me leave work, so I have that going for me.  I even managed to mow my lawn, after spending over 45 minutes on the phone trying to get a bill straightened out.  Never mind which bill; that company doesn’t need a plug from me.

Where was I?  Nowhere I suppose unless it is in the midst of a Non-Sequitur Thursday Post.  How about some non-sequitur pictures, since I don’t have much in the word department.

You had me at Vincent Price.

My late, dearly missed husband, Steven, gave me the Vincent Price Pumpkin Spice Coffee for either a birthday or anniversary present.  The caption is something I had said to him some years ago.  He was reading to me all about a movie on TCM.  He read the cast, the director, that it was based on an Edgar Allen Poe story, etc. etc.  I interrupted him with, “You had me at Vincent Price.”  I have probably told that story before.

“I’m a man.”

This is the final scene in Some Like It Hot, one of the funniest movies ever made.  Oh dear, this makes a kind of a movie theme.  That is not very non-sequitur-ish of me, is it?

I say, no matter.  I am over 200 words.  I can always bill this as a Blogger’s Sick Day instead.

One more random shot, just for good measure.

Happy Thursday, everyone!

Post-Wine Post

I have not had much wine, but I thought the title would be a good follow-up to a Pre-Coffee Post.  This, I fear, will be another post where I just rattle on for 200 words or so.  I am battling depression but trying not to whine too much about it.  After all, everybody has problems.

Not enough gas to outrun Monday!

I guess I can bill this as a Wrist to Forehead Sunday Post.  I don’t really feel that horrified by Monday, but it cannot be denied that the weekend is more fun.  This past weekend I drove into Rome, NY, to my parents’ house, where two out of three sisters  were also visiting.

Returning to Herkimer this morning, I made a stop to purchase ice melt then parked on the street while I shoveled some of the snow in my driveway.  I did not make great progress, but I got the car in without any trouble.  Phew!

Scary!

The cold air had given me a bit of a sinus headache, so I heated up my face thing and laid down for a while.  It seemed to help.  This afternoon I watched War of the Gargantuas on Svengoolie.  I have several episodes of Svengoolie on my DVR.  I bet some of you thought that picture was a graphic depiction of my headache.  I can see where one might think that.  While I watched, I heated up some leftovers for dinner.

Bearing in mind that doing something, anything can alleviate depression, I fixed tomorrow’s lunch, did the dishes, and laid out my Monday work outfit.  Now I am kind of sort of looking at Snapped while I make a blog post.

I haven’t reached mine yet.

Since I titled this Post-Wine Post, do you suppose it would be OK if I had some Post-Post Wine?  Discuss amongst yourselves.

Running Away from a Headache

I started running again yesterday (Saturday) and had high hopes of making a Saturday Running Commentary Post.  Then I neglected to make a post at all (why do I have this compulsion to call attention to my shortfalls?).  I think I can make such a post now.

The reason I stopped running was my bad bout with the flu.  I started walking again, and that went pretty well.  I set Saturday as my run again date.  And almost put it off for another day.  I waited too long, got too hungry,  and had to eat.  So I had to at least put it off another hour.  Additionally,  I woke up with a headache that was getting progressively worse.  I tried lying down with this heat-up herbal face mask my mom gave me.  It did not help, although it felt kind of nice for a while.

By this time the hour had passed, so I figured I might as well run. Since it was the first run after a break, I only asked 15 minutes of myself.  I put in a load of laundry, so I could multi-task (regular readers know it is about the only multi-task I do).

It was cold.  I had on a hat and gloves but wished I also had a scarf.  Then again, it is difficult to situate a scarf so it keeps my face warm but my glasses don’t get fogged.  As usual when I run, I persevered.

And it was not a bad run at all.  The sidewalks were mostly bare, and my body mostly cooperated.  I kept it up for 18 minutes.  I cut my cool down walk short, because one hip was paining me just a little bit.  Regular readers may remember that I spent the month of June walking instead of running due to hip pain (at least I think I mentioned it; of course I am too lazy to go back and check).  Come on, body, don’t start that on me again!

As I ran, I felt inspired to sign up for the Boilermaker 15K in Utica, NY in July.  As I make this blog post, I feel inspired to run again today.  Quick, me, get out there before you eat breakfast and have to wait an hour!

Sweet Halloween Spirits on Throwback Thursday

We can call yesterday either a real Wuss-out Wednesday or a real Blogger’s Sick Day; the result is the same, and the least said, soonest mended.  Already I have said too much.  I continue to say too much by complaining that headaches continue plague me.  I daresay I do not lead a healthy enough lifestyle.  I must work on that, but in the meantime,  let me attempt another Throwback Thursday Post.

That is a good quote.

I went back to October 2016 for a shot of one of my favorite places, the So Sweet Candy Shoppe in Utica, NY.  I have not been there recently so cannot report on their current Halloween decor.

Must have spirits on Halloween.

I looked in my Media Library in October 2017 and found this shot from Dikin Durt Distillery in Herkimer,  NY.  I do not know that it is overtly Halloweeny, but it does involve spirits.  I say that counts.

Those are some big pumpkins!

Skipping ahead to October 2019, here is a more Halloweeny shot from Pumpkin Junction in Sauquoit, NY.  I have been there once this year (perhaps you read my blog post about it) and hope to go again.

I think my concluding paragraph will bring me to 200 words, my admittedly arbitrary blog standard (it did).  I will provide the headache and healthy lifestyle update in a future post.

I Stress, But I Blog

Today is Tired Tuesday but it may as well be a Blogger’s Sick Day.  I left work after four hours due to a headache.  A nap helped a little,  but I am under stress.  Oh, get over yourself, me, we all have problems!  And so I try to at least make a blog post.

And nothing is coming.  I looked in my Media Library for a timely graphic but can find none.  What, I ask, is a blogger to do?

A depiction of how I feel.

This is  not what I was looking for,  but I find it appropriate.  I feel like a blob, oozy and a little disgusting, although I do try not to be as clingy.  People hate that and it never works.

No, I do not think I look like this.

No, this is me, a lost soul.  Now I really sound like I’m feeling sorry for myself.  I hope I am not.  But I need to find a way of dealing with all my stress.  There is no reason to burden you lovely people with it.

An oldie but a goodie.

I leave with a Tuesday meme.  The week progresses.  So will I, but right now I need a little more sleep.

Scatterbrained, Not Scattered Saturday

I am very tired, but I will attempt to make some semblance of a blog post before I turn off the light and wish I could sleep. It will not be a Scattered Saturday post, unfortunately, because there was not much scatter to my Saturday.

I mentioned this morning (in my late Lame Post Friday post, in case you missed it) that I went for a two mile walk. After that I did battle with a migraine, even as I ran to the store on a fruitless errand. At least the migraine went away, although it may have been a sinus headache. Either way, I felt very grateful it left. Then I ran to the store again, this time meeting with some measure of success.

Oh dear, am I being too mysterious about my store trips? I went to two large chain stores, not the kind of local, distinctive businesses I like to plug. Also, it was a little silly how I got to dithering over potato chips. Long story, not very interesting.

The highlight of the day was my sister Cheryl’s birthday party. Never mind how old she is; these things are not important. Only I chuckle to myself when I remember how many years ago she was happy to point out to me that she was really almost two years older than me, not one as I always thought. Now I say we are the same age: middle.

I see I have babbled on for some 250 words. I say, Score! And I hope to see you all again on Wrist to Forehead Sunday.

I Entertain a Blog Post

How about a Post-Rehearsal Post? I would normally end that sentence with a period not a question mark, since I intend to go ahead and make the post anyways. However, this evening I entertain doubts of my ability to do so.

By the way, “entertain doubts” is one of my favorite expressions. When you entertain doubts, how do you do it? Do you invite them into your parlor and serve tea? Or do you do a little song and dance, maybe some stand-up comedy? I lean towards the latter, being a theatre geek, but the idea of treating doubts as my honored guest also has its appeal.

But I digress.

I am doubting my ability to make a blog post, because I have a whanging headache (no, autocorrect, I do not mean a changing headache; I wish it would change!). I started to get it at rehearsal, as the sun seemed to set right into my eyes. It was even worse on the ride home. Kim was driving, so I must count my blessings. I took a couple extra strength acetaminophens when I got home, so that is another blessing I can count.

So this is my blog post. I can bill it as a Tired Tuesday or a Blogger’s Sick Day, but I guess it is really yet another Post About Why I Can’t Make a Blog Post. Once again, thank you for tuning in.
