Bully for Bully Hill

A great way for me to start my weekend is with a tasting at Valley Wine and Liquor in Herkimer, NY.  I went there last Friday and sampled wines from Bully Hill Vineyards of Hammondsport, NY. I have known about Bully Hill Wines almost since I first began drinking wine, so long ago the drinking age was 18. I love their fun labels, and the price is nice, too.

Nice pourer nice wines, nice price.

All the wines I tasted were sweet, which is not my favorite.  However, you never know when you might find that one exception.  Additionally, I like chatting with the pourer.   I like hearing about the different wines and the people who make them.  Caitlin was very friendly and knowledgeable.

The Riesling is billed as semi-sweet, but to me it tasted sweet.  The Ravat 51 was more of a citrusy blend.  I felt there was a lot going on there, so I enjoyed that one.  The Sweet Walter Peach was peachy and very sweet.  The Sweet Walter Loganberry was also tasty.

The last one I tasted was the Sweet Walter Midnight Mission Dessert Wine.  It was indeed very desserty.  I thought it would pair well with a rich chocolate dessert, like the Spoon Cake at Salvatore’s Pizzeria and Restaurant in Herkimer.  I am of course no expert at pairings, but it sounded good to me.

I ended up buying a bottle of the Loganberry for my sister Cheryl, because I seemed to remember she liked loganberry wine.  I later thought that maybe it was the Loganberry from a different vineyard she liked, but perhaps she will like this one just as well.

Valley Wine and Liquor in Herkimer has tastings most weekends.  You can go to their website at shopvalleywine.com for a schedule.

This Old Lame

I am attempting to make my Lame Post Friday post on Friday, but no promises as to whether I will hit Publish before Saturday morning.  I am tired, and my eyes are acting funny.  I can’t seem to focus up close or even in the middle distance.  Usually when this happens, I find I have put on the wrong glasses.  Operator Error is kind of a theme in my life.  However, I checked my glasses at least three times; they are a reading pair.

I seem to be asking my body, “What the Hell?” a lot these days.  Earlier today, as I creaked out of my chair after sitting for less than a half hour for lunch, I preceded that question with, “I am 59, not 112!”

This is how old I feel, only not as well dressed.

I interrupt my whining with a picture.  This is me and my friend Jim in a scene from Morning’s at Seven, a play we did at Ilion Little Theatre a few years ago.  I was the oldest sister.

Aging like fine wine?

A friend gave me a plaque that said, “I’m not old, I’m vintage!”  I confess I do not pay too much attention to the vintage of the wine I drink, but I love vintage automobiles.   Although I usually call them classic cars.  Yeah, that’s me:  classic.

I suppose I am not that sleek, but one does what one can.

This car was in the Ilion Days Doodah Parade last year.   I just thought it would be apropos to include a picture of a vintage car.

My foolishness has gotten me over 250 words.  Phew!  We shall see what sort of a post I can come up with for Saturday.  Scattered? Slacker?  A little suspense adds interest to my weekend.

Lame at Liverpool

OK, any local readers who are at all likely to go to my house and rob it (I’m thinking not very many of you), do not bother.  There is nothing there worth stealing.  However, if anybody does decide to break in, please clean up a little while you are there.  At least do the dishes and throw a little cleaner into the toilet, there’s a doll.

Where was I?  Ah yes, posting away from home.  I am at my sister Diane’s house in Liverpool.  It was a great deal of trouble to get here, but I am here now, relaxing and sipping Diane’s wine.

Well that was annoying.  I took a nice picture of my glass of wine with Diane’s pool in the background, and my Tablet did not save it.  In the meantime my cousin Mary said it was too chilly to remain outside and we all came back in, so that is a photo op lost.

A little blurry, but it will have to do.

I tried to take a picture indoors, as you can see, with lesser success.  However, it seems everybody has gathered in the other room, and I am missing out on some good visiting. Damn it!  That is why I drove there tonight!

So this is my Friday Lame Post.  No promises about tomorrow.  I have some visiting to do!

Lame Conquers All

It doesn’t,  of course.  Neither love nor lame conquers all; I just like putting “lame” into a popular saying for the headlines of my Lame Post Friday posts.  In this case, my lameness conquered me last night and I am once again making my Lame Post Friday post on Saturday morning, but one could scarcely consider that conquering all, even if one was given to hyperbole.

Last night I auditioned for a play the for the first time in over a year.  I will write more about that later, especially if I return to the second or third night of auditions (preview of coming attractions).  After auditions my friend Kim and I went to Lombardo’s Pizza for food and wine.  That may be why I became too tired to blog last night.

The slippers have since worn out.

I drew a blank on what to say next so resorted to my Media Library  and found this shot from a play I was in at Ilion Little Theatre in 2015 (yikes! That was a while ago).  I was Lily Piper in The Busybody.

I still have these sneakers.

I purposely looked for another picture of my feet.  I was wearing these socks yesterday, but different sneakers and no leggings.  I meant to take a picture but forgot to.  Too lame?  You decide.

Tired But Patriotic, I Hope

Tired Tuesday on the Fourth of July.

That is all that comes to my mind to type in.  I did not want to make another late post so took my Tablet up to bed with me, trusting that words would follow.  And here I am, one finger typing because I neglected to bring up a stylus and am too lazy to go back downstairs and get one.

I did mention yesterday that I have not given up whining.

That year I had not given up wine.

Here is a picture from July 2021, of the wine I was bringing to a celebration with my friends Phyllis and Jim.  See?  Red, white, and blue.  I can get seasonal on occasion.  Earlier today I ate red, white, and blue with strawberries, blueberries, and Cool Whip.  Yum!

My neighbors seem to be getting into the holiday spirit with firecrackers.  They did so last night as well (at least, it may have been different neighbors; I did not investigate the matter).  They did not keep it up all night, so that was all right.

Brewer, patriot…

I just looked through all the July pictures in my Media Library, and this was the only other patriotic picture I could find.  I had neglected to purchase any Sam Adams beer for the holiday so made do with iced coffee in a Sam Adams glass.  I had a tradition of drinking Sam Adams beer on the Fourth of July for a number of years.  That was before I became such a wine aficionado (I always thought that word should have two f’s you know, like affection).

Ooh, look, I am over 250 words!  Not bad for a Tired Tuesday Post.  Happy Independence Day, everyone!

Music, Wine, and Scenery, Yes!

Yes, it is another late Saturday blog post, but at least it is prior to whatever time I was posting last Sunday (don’t remember, but it was later than this).  I had a wonderful time yesterday, but it was such a lot of car time to get to it!  Worth every mile, but it wore me out.

Not the best lighting, but you can read it, I think.

My parents, sister Cheryl, and I went to Geneva, NY, to the Inspire Moore Winery, to hear Big Blue House.  What a great band!  What a beautiful setting!

My pictures of the band didn’t come out so great, either.

When we arrived, a guest artist had joined them for a couple of numbers.  I stupidly did not write down his name, but I loved his harmonica and vocals.

At one point, a guy in the band reminded us that the open space in front of the band was there for a reason.  He didn’t have to tell me twice!  I got up and started dancing.  If Steven had been there, he would have gotten up, too, so I guess I was dancing for the both of us.  I was soon joined by three other ladies, and we all four loved it.

After they sat down, another song I couldn’t resist played and I was dancing by myself again.  An older man started crossing the area, and I danced around him, thanking him for dancing with me.  He said he was looking for his wife and did not bust a move, but I think he was amused.  Later I saw him slow dancing with his wife.  When they finished, I went over and said, “Sure, you wouldn’t dance with me!”  We had a nice conversation.

Just to share another picture of the winery.

I had other conversations with other people, including a couple cousins and my sister Vicki, who had driven up from Pennsylvania with her husband.  I also tasted some wine and enjoyed a glass of dry Rose (how embarrassing that I do not know how to put the accent on the e).

Lots of gorgeous scenery.

The afternoon came to an abrupt end with a loud rumble of thunder.  The musicians quickly unplugged their instruments.  The downpour started almost immediately.   One aspect of my personality which I particularly enjoy is that I laugh at bad weather.  When I am getting rained or snowed on, I find myself laughing.  I laughed as Dad and I walked to the car.  We drove back to pick up Cheryl and Mom,

I was happy to finally make it back to Herkimer, although I felt too tired to articulate a blog post.  However, I think I did OK with it this morning.  Or do I flatter myself?

Whine Today, Wine Tomorrow

I do not know why I am so tired.  I did not go running after work, because I was concerned about air quality issues.  I also did not run errands as I had intended to do nor did I do the laundry and other household chores.  I feel even more tired after listing the things I was supposed to do.

So I am thinking this is not merely a Lame Post Friday post, I am having a Lame Friday!

Have a bloody good day!

I thought I would throw in a picture before I got too bogged down.  A little vampire always brightens my day.

Tomorrow I am getting together with family at a winery for good music and good times.  I have nothing to wear (see previous paragraph about not doing laundry), the wrong gel for my hair, and no gas in my car.  These are problems which can be solved in the morning, I hope.

Perhaps this could form part of tomorrow’s ensemble.

Now I am just looking for random pictures to fill up the post.

Who, me? Drink wine?

Perhaps I am still tired as a result of yesterday’s migraine.  These things can take a toll on a woman my age (by the way, I have been referring to myself as “a woman my age” since my mid-30s).

In the meantime, I have made it to over 200 words with this nonsense.  I hope you are all having a delightful Friday, and thank you for tuning in.

Fun Saturday, Late Post

Once again I went to bed last night before making my Scattered Saturday Post. In my defense… I have no defense.  It was a pretty good Saturday, beginning with a run and ending with movies.  In between, friends, fun, and a little bit of wine.

It doesn’t look so steep in the picture.

I mentioned in my late Lame Post Friday post that I ran up College Hill.  I share this picture taken in April 2020 to add interest to the post.

One of my favorite places.

How serendipitous! This picture of Salvatore’s Pizzeria and Restaurant in Herkimer was also in April 2020.  I met my friends Jim and Kim there for lunch.

Jim gets all the girls.

I did not realize I had two pictures like this.  The lady on the left is Jim’s late, dearly missed wife, Phyllis.  It was a running joke in our group that Kim was Jim’s other wife, because she played his trophy wife in a murder mystery once.  I was looking for a picture of this pose taken at Salvatore’s, but I guess one taken at the End Zone Pub will do.

I haven’t had a good hot bath in a long time.

After lunch, Kim and I visited the Wine Tasting Room at the Raindrops on Roses Bed and Breakfast.  The place used to be known as the Bellinger Rose, hence this tub I took a picture of.

Back home I watched a couple of movies. I would look for pictures and talk about them, but I see I am over 200 words, and I do not want the post to run long.  For one reason, I have to get on with my Sunday.  I hope I don’t make today’s post late, but no promises.

Why I Didn’t Make a Blog Post This Time

I guess the entire week is late posts.  Yesterday I went in search of rehearsal space for Shooting at the Grange, the murder mystery we are working on.  I wanted to ask at Basloe Library, which closed at five on Thursdays, so I hustled home from work so I could get in a shower and make myself presentable, no easy task.  I managed it in pretty good time, though, and was soon on my way.

It turns out the library is under construction, so my first thought of a room was unavailable.  I had a very nice conversation with the lady there, though.

“The construction workers have all their stuff in there,”the lady said.

“Rats!” I said.

“I hope not rats!” she said.  Good point.  We chatted some more about other things as well as aboit the murder mystery.  If we cannot find another space, we might be able to sit in their cafe and run lines, just keeping our voices down.

I tried the Marine Corps League in Ilion.  They have big signs up, saying, “Members Only, No Exceptions,”  which I found a little intimidating, but they were very nice.  I have to call a guy to see if there is a room available when we need it.  I thought I should buy a drink, since I had parked in a space marked “Customers Only,” but a guy was buying the house a round and included me. I thought that was very nice of him.

After I got home, I decided to walk to the Elks Lodge, which is near my house.  We rehearsed there for murder mysteries that were performed there, so I thought maybe they would be so kind.  It turns out they would, if the space is available.  I stayed for a glass of wine there as well.  The people at the  Elks are very nice, too.

So when I got home, I still had to fix supper, and I was tired.  I have been running around every day this week.  What the hell, me?  Tonight I mean to stay home and make my Friday blog post on Friday.  As always, I hope you’ll stat tuned.

Just to throw in an illustration.

Is It Really Wednesday?

OK, all I really have right now is that title.  I guess that makes this either a Wordless or a Wuss-out Wednesday when what I really feel like making is a Mid-week Monsters Post.

Of course, she does have a pretty face.

This is the movie I wanted to watch on Severed Head Sunday.  Unfortunately, I only have it on a DVD collection, not a DVD all by itself.  And with my current DVD situation, I can only put the disc in and hit Play; I can’t arrow over or down to play the second movie on the disc.  No Special Features either, although I rarely got into watching those.  Not that I mean to harp on my first world problems.

“First world problems are still problems!”

Here is my skeleton Bonita having a Wrist to Forehead moment.  I have been feeling a little apt to swoon these days, in my more dramatic moments (of course I have many dramatic moments; I am a theatre person, after all). I guess I don’t have a theme for today’s post.  It is being made out of a desire to post every day, and not to make this post late.

Is that Pinot Noir?

Sometimes the best thing to do is just pour yourself a glass of wine and hope for a better post tomorrow.  I purchased that glass at Pumpkin Junction in Sauquoit, NY, just to mention a local business.  I stupidly broke it last Halloween. Perhaps I can get another one this fall.

In the meantime,  I am over 250 words.  Not bad for a silly post.  I am going to take my own advice: sip a little wine and hope for a better post tomorrow.  As always I hope you’ll stay tuned.
