Category Archives: Wrist to Forehead Sunday

Post Easter Post

When I made Saturday’s blog post on Sunday morning and said Happy Easter, it kind of left me without anywhere to go on Sunday evening.  I had a delightful holiday with some of my family.  As a friend put it, I have a wealth of family, and for that I am truly grateful.

That being the case, I feel I should not go on to make a Wrist to Forehead Sunday Post.  I mean, one does not go from having a lovely Easter Sunday to swooning, posed dramatically with the back of one wrist against one’s forehead, dreading Monday.  Does one?

Not exactly a swoon, but notice the placement of the wrist.

Here I am being dramatic in Dirty Work at the Crossroads, presented by Ilion Little Theatre,  directed by my late husband, Steve.  I always wanted him to direct again, but he never did.  This is a problem I am having.  At odd times, it hits me anew:  I will never see him again.

I’m sure anybody who has suffered a loss has these moments too.  I try not to feel that I am the only one to ever shed a tear.  Sometimes I think I am a bigger baby than most, but one does the best one can.

So I am grateful for my nice day with my nice family.  If I start to feel sad when I am home alone, well that is just the way it is.  I forgot where I was going with this.  Ah yes, just trying to make my Sunday blog post on Sunday.  We’ll call it a Wrist to Forehead Sunday Post and drive on.

I Swoon Over Columbo

I have been obsessively watching episodes of Columbo on DVD.  I may have mentioned that my parents gave me a boxed set of the entire series for Christmas.   The episode I am watching right now features George Wendt.  Imagine Norm from Cheers as a murderer!  That did not need a Spoiler Alert; that was the gimmick on Columbo:  you saw the murder and the suspense came in how Columbo was going to prove it.

He did not want to answer “One more thing.”

I started another episode just now but may go to bed before it is over.  It may be clear by now that I do not have a whole lot to say.  I guess that is normal for a Wrist to Forehead Sunday Post.

What a bad Monday I would have if I did that!

Having Monday tomorrow isn’t really so bad.  My job is not heinous.  Naturally I would prefer to be independently wealthy and not have to work, but as is often observed, one cannot have everything.

One of the all time greatest fictional detectives.

Full disclosure:  I had a Mohawk Valley Adventure today.  I hope to write about it in the near future.  In the meantime, I hope this will do for today’s post.  As always, I thank you for tuning in.

Bonita was also having a Wrist to Forehead Sunday.

Not Much Brain, But a Nice Memory

I want to make my Sunday blog post on Sunday.  Unfortunately my brain is blank.  This is not an unusual situation for me.

“Did somebody ask for a brain?”

This is The Brain from the Planet Arous. Full disclosure:  I do not remember much about the movie; I just like to use the picture when I am feeling particularly brain dead.

Look at her giving him the side-eye!

And here is The Brain That Wouldn’t Die.  Mine obviously would.

There’s a guy with a brain!

I am still watching episode after episode of Columbo on DVD. Some episodes I pay more attention to than others.  Right now one is playing that I do not mind missing parts of.  Oh, wait, the plot just thickened!

Years ago, when my mother and I used to watch Murder, She Wrote on Sunday nights, at every commercial break, Mom would turn to me and say, “The plot thickens!”  I may have shared that memory before, but it is a good one.  My husband Steve always liked to hear it.  Sometimes I would remark that the plot thickened when he and I watched Dateline.  I do like a thick plot!

So I can’t remember much about The Brain from the Planet Arous, but I remember nice evenings with my Mom.  I’m OK with that.  Happy Sunday, everyone.

Bad Sunday, Good Pizza

My Sunday was really crappy, although I’ll admit my problems were primarily of the first world variety.  Then again, when you feel your desires are simple, it can be twice as frustrating to be unable to meet them. Additionally, my whole life these days is overshadowed by the grief of losing my husband.  I am afraid anything that sucks is going to suck a little bit more for the foreseeable future.  One must live through these things.

All I wanted to do was watch television.  A little news in the morning while I played solitaire (on the floor with a regular deck of cards), a little Snapped in the afternoon while I knitted.  A relaxing Sunday.  However, it did not work out that way.  Once again, my television persistently told me “No Signal.”

I spent time on the phone with cable people, I drove to New Hartford, NY to pick up a cable they said I needed, I figured out how to replace said cable, I spent more time on the phone, I drove to Little Falls so the UPS store could send my (brand new) cable box back to the cable company, I required two more phone calls to actually cancel service.  Phew!  That is the short version, but I did not want to skip any steps.

So now I sit in silence on Monday morning, pecking in one letter at a time with the stylus on my Tablet (I always feel the need to tell you that), making my Sunday blog post late once again.  As you see, I did not cancel internet.  I am not a savage, after all.

Just to add a plug for a local business,  in between the last two phone calls, I went to Mangia Macrina’s which is handily located in the same building, for a wood-fired pizza and a glass of wine.  While I sipped and munched, I wrote another character sheet for my upcoming murder mystery, Shooting at the Grange (more about that later) (preview of coming attractions).

Good pizza!

Mangia Macrina’s (Macrina’s, not Marine’s, autocorrect!  Sheesh!) is located at Canal Place in Little Falls, NY.

Post-Wine Post

I have not had much wine, but I thought the title would be a good follow-up to a Pre-Coffee Post.  This, I fear, will be another post where I just rattle on for 200 words or so.  I am battling depression but trying not to whine too much about it.  After all, everybody has problems.

Not enough gas to outrun Monday!

I guess I can bill this as a Wrist to Forehead Sunday Post.  I don’t really feel that horrified by Monday, but it cannot be denied that the weekend is more fun.  This past weekend I drove into Rome, NY, to my parents’ house, where two out of three sisters  were also visiting.

Returning to Herkimer this morning, I made a stop to purchase ice melt then parked on the street while I shoveled some of the snow in my driveway.  I did not make great progress, but I got the car in without any trouble.  Phew!

Scary!

The cold air had given me a bit of a sinus headache, so I heated up my face thing and laid down for a while.  It seemed to help.  This afternoon I watched War of the Gargantuas on Svengoolie.  I have several episodes of Svengoolie on my DVR.  I bet some of you thought that picture was a graphic depiction of my headache.  I can see where one might think that.  While I watched, I heated up some leftovers for dinner.

Bearing in mind that doing something, anything can alleviate depression, I fixed tomorrow’s lunch, did the dishes, and laid out my Monday work outfit.  Now I am kind of sort of looking at Snapped while I make a blog post.

I haven’t reached mine yet.

Since I titled this Post-Wine Post, do you suppose it would be OK if I had some Post-Post Wine?  Discuss amongst yourselves.

Perhaps I Should Have Left It Blank

I am sitting here staring at a blank space and feeling that my mind is equally blank.

Well, I thought that if I typed in something, anything (pecking it out one letter at a time with the stylus, of course), I could go on from there.   Sometimes these little tricks work.  Sometimes not so much.  However,  I want to make a blog post.  I will attempt to make a blog post.

The famous white bathing suit.

I throw in a picture to pep things up. Earlier I watched Creature from the Black Lagoon on a DVR’d episode of Svengoolie.  I loves me some Svengoolie.

I know how she feels.

This is also not the picture I was looking for.  However, sometimes I like to jump on the I Hate Monday bandwagon.  I personally will not be pouring myself such a measure of booze.  I had a little wine earlier, but not enough to render Monday even more hideous than it is forced to be by nature.

Cheers, my love.

Speaking of wine, here is a picture of my sadly missed husband, Steve, enjoying a libation at the Waterfront Grille in Herkimer, NY.  My friend Kim and I had a couple drinks at the Waterfront yesterday.  Did I mention that in my Scattered Saturday Post?   It is far too much trouble to go back and look.

I guess I can bill this as a Wrist to Forehead Sunday Post, because I must sound like I am about to swoon, dramatically posed with the back of one wrist to my forehead.  I will try for a little less drama tomorrow.

Slacker Sunday, But Here’s a Snowman

Earlier today I posted on Facebook, “Two things done.  Roughly 5,438 left to go!”  In fact, I got more than two things done today, but the backlog of things that yet need doing looms before me in a most menacing manner.  Although I have had a couple Mohawk Valley Adventures lately, I just don’t feel I can make good blog posts about them.  And so I slack.

A giant snowman might cheer me up!

I took this picture in my neighborhood yesterday while on an otherwise unremarkable walk.  I thought it would be nice to include in my Sunday blog post.  Waste not, want not, I always say.

A smaller snowman, but still cheery.

I remembered I had another picture of a snowman in my Media Library.  I even remembered it was November 2020, so my brain is apparently not completely fried.

It would take a lot of oil to fry this brain!

I venture into non-sequitur territory with The Brain from the Planet Arous.  Or is it more of a tangent, since I just mentioned brain?  I ought to know these grammatical considerations.

All this nonsense is my way of continuing my Blogger’s Sick Day.  I will strive to get my act together in the coming week.  Will I succeed any better than the last dozen times I have thought to get my act together (never mind the last 8,562 times)?  A little uncertainty will add interest to my week.

Oh Poo! It’s Sunday!

Actually, isn’t it right in front of us?

I stole this picture from a Facebook page I love, Dracula’s House of Halloween, because I thought it would be funny on a Wrist to Forehead Sunday Post.  I don’t know that I am apt to swoon, dramatically posed with the back of on wrist to my forehead (is there another way to swoon?), but I am feeling a little down.

Weird Al can cheer me up!

I feared the post would degenerate into “Oh poor, pitiful me!” so looked for an another funny picture to share.  This is Weird Al Yankovic in Galavant, a truly delightful television series that sadly only lasted only two seasons.  My husband, Steven, got me the whole series on DVD, so there is another cheery thought.

Which poo do I feel more like?

I like to have three pictures in a blog post, so here is some fake poo I bought a few years ago as a prop for a murder mystery.  I’m not sure where the smaller poo is, but I think the big one is on the landing of my stairs.  My house is a terrible mess, but at least I know where I can lay my hands on some fake poo!

This is turning into a rather silly post, almost a Non-Sequitur Sunday.  But I believe a silly post is better than no post at all.  Thank you once again for tuning in.

Wrist to Stomach

It was going to be such a productive Sunday.  I even made a list of everything I wanted to get done.  I didn’t think I would get everything on the list done, but one’s reach often exceeds one’s grasp.  Now I am remembering a few more things I really ought to have put on the list.   I guess I am not going to get those done either.

I am lounged in my bed with a perfectly dreadful upset stomach.  I think I ate a few too many bad things for my age.  It is too early to go to sleep for the night (although I tried a nap while the upset was at its worst) (here’s hoping the worst has past), so I will try a Wrist to Forehead Sunday Post.

I was having such a fun Sunday, too.  My husband, Steve, and I watched The Raven on Svengoolie, which we DVR’d last night.  I love that movie!

I love Sven, too!

After The Raven, which we did not delete,  we put in Columbo again.  When the DVD player messed up, I remembered I had not gone for a walk this morning.  My stomach was starting to quease (I don’t know if that is actually a verb, but it should be), but I hoped for the best.  Isn’t fresh air and exercise supposed to be healthy?  It turns out not so much.

So that is my sad Sunday story.  At least I got a blog post out of it.  Now please excuse me while I swoon.

I Also Have To Write Something

So posting daily did not last very long.  I picked up my Tablet to make a post yesterday but felt too blank and sad.  I thought if I gave it a try this morning (Monday) I might meet with success.

Hmmm… So far, not much.

Isn’t this awesome?

I came across this in my Facebook On This Day.  I find it inspiring.  However, as we all know, inspiration is not enough.  You also have to write something.  I have a few projects in various stages of development:  a new novel and a couple of mysteries, one not involving murder.  I’ll share more about that one later (preview of coming attractions).

For right now, I am up to 100 words, halfway to my self-imposed minimum for a blog post, and I fear I have neither informed nor entertained.  What can I do about that?

What am I doing, emphasizing that this post is late?

I peeped into my Media Library and found this.  My Monday obligations are looming in my peripheral vision, urging me to finish this post and get on with the day.  Am I in fact clinging to Sunday by making my Wrist to Forehead Sunday post?  I think not, but perhaps I flatter myself.

In any case, I have achieved 200 words of this nonsense.  I hope you will all tune in later for my Monstrous Monday Post.
