Post Trick or Treat Post

There are perhaps eight more minutes left of trick or treating in Herkimer, NY. Before I finished typing (one letter at a time with the stylus) in that sentence, the doorbell rang for another trick or treater. Anyways.

I tried to take a selfie with my spider fascinator, which I wore while we passed out candy, but it did not work out.

I think it is a pretty cool hat.

This is a picture from Kentucky Derby Saturday, when Steve, Kim, and I put on hats because it seemed to be the thing to do.

I did not get any pictures of the trick or treating. Right now we are looking at Frankenstein on Svengoolie on DVR.

Who doesn’t like a little Svengoolie on Halloween?

We watched a couple other horror type movies earlier, but nothing worth reporting. Right now I am missing some of the Sven segments while I try to finish this post. Quite frankly, I am happy to be making a blog post at all. Happy Halloween, all.

A Busy Saturday So Far

I pause in my activities to make a Scattered Saturday Post. Check it out: I am making a Saturday Post ON Saturday!

We got up stupidly early as usual (not as early as when I work, but still, you would think I could sleep in once in a while). I went for a short run, wrote a few post cards, called my Mom and Dad, all the usual stuff. Then Steve and I set out on a few minor adventures.

First we went to Collis Hardware in Herkimer, NY. We dropped off a basement window frame to have plexiglass put in it. I am embarrassed to tell you how long we have been putting this off, so I will keep that bit of information to myself.

They were very nice there.

Next we went a little ways up the street to Mohawk Valley Community Market. We spent some time looking at the various vendors.

Renewed and Rescued is the store that started the Market.

I asked if I could take a picture of the staff, because they looked so cute in their Halloween costumes.

They graciously posed.

After that we were feeling peckish so went to Honey Brook Bakery for a treat.

After a brief interlude at home, eating our treats, we drove to Ilion. First we went up Otsego Street so I could show Steve some of the great yard decorations I have been enjoying on my way home from work. Then we went to the Thrift Store in search of materials for our Halloween costumes.

Our last stop was at New 2 You Consignments, where I scored a baggy of bead necklaces. They may not be right for my Halloween costume, but then again, I may stretch a point.

We are now relaxing at home, but soon we will begin getting ready for a Halloween party at the Frankfort American Legion, featuring our favorite band The Posers. Yay!

Joan Will Forgive Me

Aaaand here is my Lame Post Friday post, being pecked in one letter at a time on my Tablet early Saturday morning. Ah, my wonderful husband, Steven, just brought me a cup of coffee. Soon those brain cells will start moving.

OK, I don’t really have much this morning, but I swiped a cool picture off Facebook to share.

Things that might have been.

I don’t know about coimetromania, but the picture is Joan Crawford and Bette Davis in a publicity shot for Hush… Hush, Sweet Charlotte. Joan was later replaced by Olivia de Havilland. I love that movie, but I also would have loved to see it with Joan in the part.

Incidentally, I know that by proper rules, I should be referring to Joan as “Crawford” or possibly “Ms. Crawford.” Those just don’t feel right to me. “Miss Crawford” would be more correct to the period the movie was made, but I don’t much like that either. Have I had this discussion before? Sorry to repeat myself.

So this is my Late Friday Lame Post: cool picture, dither paragraph regarding usage. Let’s see if I can make my Saturday post (Saturday Evening Post?) On time.

It’s Almost Halloween!

This is a late, short post, and I will indulge in Throwback Thursday. Since it the beginning of Halloween weekend, how about some of my old Halloween pictures?

Check out the spooky sky!

Here is a shot of a rainy Halloween. We are hoping the rain clears up in time for trick or treating on Sunday.

I wonder where that skeleton and those ghosts are.

Here is our porch for a few years ago. Witchy is out there now, but we don’t have the hanging things. I guess this is a rebuilding year for our Halloween decorations.

Bonita and friends.

This is one of my favorite pictures of our skeleton Bonita. I love how Darling Duck and Santa Claus are photobombing.

Perhaps tonight I can get a few pictures of this year’s decor. After all, we have not completely dropped the ball.

Oh Yeah, the Murder Mystery!

I had meant to make a Post Rehearsal Post last night, but I was too tired (you know, Tired Tuesday). I also meant to take a few pictures at rehearsal, but, well, I forgot. Oh dear.

I think it’s a nice poster.

Steven and I were delighted to see the above flier on WKTV’s Morning Mug Club yesterday morning. I have not heard how ticket sales are going, but a lot of people have expressed interest.

Rehearsal went pretty well. I think we need a little more work on lines, but we’re getting there. I, personally, am trying to learn everybody’s lines, so I can help if there’s a problem during performance. One would think this would be easy for me, since I wrote the whole thing. What, am I supposed to remember everything I ever wrote? That would be difficult, especially since I continually strive to write more of everything.

I guess you can read all the information in the poster (I’m having a little trouble with the Preview function on my Tablet) (imagine that: me having trouble with an electronic device! Say it ain’t so!), but in case you can’t: Donate to Murder, interactive dinner theatre, will be presented to benefit Herkimer County Historical Society on Saturday, Nov. 6, at the Herkimer Elks Lodge. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., dinner at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $35, available at the Historical Society or by calling 315-866-6413.

Wrist to Forehead Monstrous Monday?

My plans for a better blog post will not come to fruition tonight. Instead I am going to make another Monstrous Monday Post and go to sleep. I hope. Hope to sleep, that is. Insomnia is ever my nighttime companion, but never mind that now. Let me try to fine some monster pictures I have not shared recently.

She is traumatized that I cannot make a decent blog post.

Here is Bonita, more naked than usual but sporting some elegant accessories. She is striking a wrist to forehead pose. This is how I swoon when I am feeling particularly dramatic, although I believe the proper way to do it is on a chaise lounge.

He looks pretty cheerful for not being a morning person.

Here is another monster from our personal collection. I have been using that mug a lot lately but have not seen the vampire. We did not bring all our Halloween decorations down from the attic.

I fear this will be a short post as my tiredness threatens to overcome me. Yes, I will soon be making a dramatic pose like Bonita’s. Anyways, happy Monday, all.

I Guess It’s a Grey Area

Regular readers (I hope I still have some) may have noticed my sporadic posting lately. In my defense, I have no defense. I feel there is no point in offering a bunch of reasons or excuses (you may discuss amongst yourselves the philosophical difference between the two) (and here is a Freudian typo I would like explained: I put “philosophicalm” instead of “philosophical”).

Ooh, lost track of that sentence. But here’s a weird thing: as soon as I hit Return, the previous paragraph went light grey, as if it wasn’t really there. Is this a comment on the ephemeral nature of blogging and life in general? Again, discuss amongst yourselves.

Another return, another grey paragraph. I am not loving this, WordPress.

Isn’t she pretty?

I thought I would throw in a picture of Bonita and Bonaparte just to dress up the post. I seem to have gotten distracted by the grey paragraphs and lost track of where I was going with this post. I guess I just wanted to post something, anything.

As always, I will try for a better post next time, and I thank you for tuning in.

Fun Party, Late Post

For this week’s Monstrous Monday Post, I thought I would share a few pictures of the Boo Bash at the Herkimer VFW last Saturday. Unfortunately, after I had downloaded the pictures from my camera, I was too tired to finish the post on Monday. So I thought I could finish it the next day and market it as a Tired Tuesday post. And now here I am Wednesday morning and still nothing published. Judge me if you are so inclined.

Steven especially liked the Reindeer antlers.

Our friend Tracy was visiting us from out of town. At her current job she is known as a woman who wears many hats. She decided to embrace it for her costume and wear almost every hat she owns. I should have taken several views, because you can’t see all the hats. I missed a bet!

I liked Steve’s had, too.

Steven kept it simple with a Halloween sweatshirt and pumpkin hat. I walked around snapping a few pictures of the decor.

He looks as if he’s making a little bow.

Nice centerpieces.
The bartender said this was his brother.

The DJ was from Bug Country, a local country radio station. He kept the party going with door prizes and good music.

He was fun.
A closer look at his costume.
He brought a couple friends.

There were a lot of fun costumes, but I only got a picture of my favorite. During the costume competition, I was among the people chanting, “Bridezilla! Bridezilla!”

Her groom was pretty cool, too.

After I took the picture, Bridezilla laughed at herself because she was smiling behind the mask. There were a lot of reasons to smile. It was a fun night.

Why in the world did it take me three days to make a post about it? Discuss amongst yourselves.

Fighting Lightheadedness and Autocorrect

I guess posting in the morning is a thing with me these days. Right now I am fighting the lightheadedness that periodically plagues me, but you’ll have that. (You know what else you’ll have: autocorrect putting capital letters where you don’t want them! I hope I manage to go back and fix them all) (And yet autocorrect let stand “fiz” for “fix”) (but I digress).

Where was I? Ah yes, making a Throwback Thursday Post, although since it is actually Friday morning (although my WordPress timestamp may not agree), we could also call it a Non-Sequitur Thursday. Or even Lame Post Friday! But let us not get bogged down in labels.

I contemplate myself.

This is only throwing back to June, when I ran in the Pride Stride 5K in Little Falls, NY. I am no hand at taking selfies.

I’m in the background of this one.

Here is a theatre throwback! It is Matt Powers mingling with the audience in Secrets at Suiter House, a murder mystery we did to benefit the Herkimer County Historical Society.

I’m not in this one.

This is a weird shot from December 2020, which of course was a kind of a weird time, for me and for others. I was taking a walk trying to get pictures of Christmas lights when I saw this leftover Halloween ghost. Or was it?

I see I have reached 200 words (in another officious autocorrect action, that almost read “00”). Score! I do not always reach that self-imposed goal these days. I hope you enjoyed my pictures. Thank you for tuning in.

Movies on my Mind

I last posted four days ago. This is not normal behavior for Mohawk Valley Girl. And about all I can manage right now is a Wrist to Forehead Sunday Post. Or perhaps a Sunday Cinema Post. Hmmm…

Today has been a very relaxed day, even for a Sunday. After I took my post-run shower, I put on neither earrings nor a bra (do NOT say TMI) (you know who you are). I wore pajama bottoms and a Halloween t-shirt. We watched movies while I crocheted a crochet in Halloween colors (black, orange and purple).

My Sunday guy.

We started out with Dracula on Svengoolie, DVR’d recently. I was telling Steven some of the differences between the movie and the book, although it is not a bad adaptation for Hollywood.

We had a hard time deciding on a second feature but finally settled on Murder on the Orient Express, the newer, Kenneth Branaugh version, which Steven recently acquired on DVD.

A star-studded Agatha Christie romp!

I prefer the Albert Finney version, but the new one is entertaining, and I am happy to have it in our collection. After that, I wanted something cheesey and suggested Monster from Green Hell, which I picked up on video at a rummage sale some time ago.

It’s scary!

It actually took a lot of time to get to the monster, and there were some dull parts between attacks. You’ll have that with these old flicks. When the movie ended, Steven had stepped out of the room, so I sneaked in another cheesey rummage sale video, The Brain Eaters.

I don’t remember that chick in the movie.

I wrote about this movie some time ago in a post titled “Rest Your Brain With Brain Eaters.” Steven came up with that title. I need to start writing about cheese movies again. Um, and everything else I used to blog about.
