Because I Felt Like It

AAAaaand we’re back to late blog posts.  My computer does not like the way I spelled “And,” but it is the way I said it in my head.  Also, we learned in junior high school English class never to start a sentence with “and,” “but,” or “because,” so ha ha on two counts.  I am in a kind of a rollicking mood this morning, and I intend to make a Non-Sequitur Thursday post.

It’s not hump day either.

I looked for a random photo and decided on this camel from the Utica Zoo. I guess the picture would be more appropriate for Wednesday, so you can see what a rebel I am.

These signs should be posted on my mind.

I searched for a while to find a “Do Not Enter” sign.  As regular readers know, whenever I am walking or running and encounter a sign that says “DO NOT ENTER,” I enter.  It makes me feel like a rebel.  Oh, I know, they are talking about vehicular traffic, not old ladies plodding along at whatever pace I can manage.  Give me a break; I have to get my chuckles where I can.

Herman is horrified that I am making my Thursday blog post on Friday.

I cannot make any promises about making my Lame Post Friday post on Friday.  Then again, I rarely make promises (but I often make typos) (I say that because it took me three tries to type “promises”) (but I digress).  I see I am approaching 250 words.  What, oh what, can I come up with for a headline?

Lame As I Ever Was

Hello, blogosphere, I am back!  What, blogosphere isn’t a word yet? I hear it all the time.  Perhaps I have it misspelled.  In any case, I am back on the blog after losing a few days to technical difficulties and my usual malaise which makes it a major effort for me to do anything.  I finally got back on my Chromebook. Phew!  I know, I could have posted from my Tablet, as I used to do all the time, but that, too has become problematic.  When I finish the post, I can’t type in a headline at all, and when I try to add categories and tags, the screen jumps every time I hit a key.  For the last post, I got on my phone to add headline and tags.

Now I feel a little ashamed for not going through such a rigamarole again (but I KNOW rigamarole is a word!  It has been a word for years!).

Random picture to denote passage of time.

I found it in my Webster’s dictionary.  “Rigamarole” is another spelling of “rigmarole.”  I think the extra syllable adds to the expressiveness of the term.  I recently read in an English history book about the origin of the word.  Of course I cannot remember it now, but I know which book it was in, and I will look it up for use on a future blog post.

My bestie, Kim, is coming to visit today.  Regular readers know she moved away early this year, to the detriment of my Saturday adventuring.  I’m sure we will have a lot of fun today, although I am a little concerned at the forecast of high 80’s.

This has been me and many of my co-workers all week.

I had actually been looking for a Mohawk Valley adventure picture to share, but I found this one and couldn’t resist.

Technical Difficulties on Tired Tuesday

Yestersay was a common or garden Tired Tuesday (still the tiny letters on my Tablet and no predictive text or autocorrect; what’s that about?). I pulled a muscle at work, but it was not one of my blogposting muscles. Well, peripherally I guess it was, but really I have no good excuse.

So, what, is this post going to be entirely me whining about not making a post yesterday? SAY IT AIN’T SO! Now my predictive text would have given me the whole phrase after I had typed in “SA”, a great savings in time. Additionally, I just noticed that in the previous parahraph, “autocorrect” came out “autocortec.” Autocorrect would have caught that and fixed it. Ironic, yes? Or do I set the bar too low?

OK, so I guess it’s a post of me whining about technical difficulties. Quick, throw in a picture (once again, my predictive text thingy would have helpfully chimed in with “to pep things up”).

Once again, I am unable to add a caption, but this is the magnificent cast of Fabulous and Fatal, a murder mystery we presented in 2019 to benefit the Herkimer County Historical Society, a wonderful memory.

Come to think about it, I have to get moving on another murder mystery for them. So I begin with a whine and end with a preview of coming attractions. It will have to do for a late Tired Tuesday post.

One Chore Done on Tired Tuesday.

I knew it was Tuesday.

It has been that sort of a day.  Not a bad day really, but my list of things I need to get done grows ever longer while my ambition to do them ever shrinks. But one must persevere.

I got one thing done thanks to Basloe Library in Herkimer, NY.   I needed to print out a few copies of the script for Shooting at the Grange, the murder mystery we are putting on to benefit Salisbury Grange on April 29 (thus I sneak in another plug for the event).  I was a little worried about getting to my email to get to the scripts, which I had sent to myself for the purpose.  It seems emails don’t like you to log into your account on strange devices.  Sometimes they want you to use two tiered identification or whatever they call it, and that is far too complicated for me.

Well, they didn’t ask to send a code to a cell phone I don’t have, but I still needed help getting to the inbox.  The nice people who work at the library helped me.  The whole process took less time than I spent worrying about it.

“You know the feeling when you have a huge list of things to get done and you get one thing done,” I said as I paid for my copies.  The lady at the desk knew the feeling.

One of my favorite places.

I seem to think the sign is not currently there, but I thought the picture would make a good plug for the library.

Speaking of plugs.

I close by showing once again the information for our murder mystery.

Mid-Week Monsters from my Media Library

I am having a hard time writing anything these days.  I open a notebook (the spiral-bound paper kind), uncap a pen, and…  sometimes I write a word or two, sometimes not.  I guess the important thing is to keep trying.  So I will try to make a blog post.  I know what!  It’s Wednesday:  I will do a Mid-Week Monsters Post! I look in my Media Library…

He’s not the only one who was scared!

I open with Nosferatu (1922), because I have been watching it on DVD while running in place on the mini-tramp this past week or so.  I have only been doing short runs, so it took a few times to see the whole movie.

Not showing the monster, but appropriate for the day.

I love Young Frankenstein, in fact, I love most of Mel Brooks’ movies.

“This is a good boy!”

Here is the monster! At first, I went to Facebook and downloaded a new photo, but when I tried to put it in the post, it was really small, so I went back to my Media Library.  I do not properly understand photos and computers.

“I said I only wanted a trim!”

After Dracula (although they couldn’t call him that) and Frankenstein,  I put in the Wolfman.  I don’t know what movie this is from; it was in my Media Library.  Sometimes I just download pictures I like.

This silliness has gotten me over 200 words.  Apparently I can come up with more words pecking in one letter at a time with the stylus.  Tomorrow I will try again with pen and paper.

Comfortably Lame

I thought of that title a few weeks ago and wrote it down.  Then this morning (yes, I am making my Lame Post Friday post on Saturday morning, more about that later), I remembered that I had written it down and paged through my notebook (I need hardly say the paper, spiral-bound kind) (are there still computers called notebooks? I am so out of touch) looking for it. I am going to say it is appropriate, because I have become increasingly more comfortable with making a day’s post the following morning (although I will probably never feel really good about it).  In any case, if I do not use it soon, it will moulder away in that notebook, unused and unremembered.

Wow, that was a long paragraph.  I’d better follow it up with a short one.

Regarding the title on the notebook (ooh, how’s that for a title, “The Title in the Notebook”?), I know it is a time-honored practice of writers to always have a notebook where we can write down ideas and little snippets as they occur to us.  For me, this tends to work out better than the notebook by the bed for those middle of the night inspirations.  I personally have never dreamt a usable plot line.  Additionally, rousing myself sufficiently to write something down has a detrimental effect on my always troublesome insomnia.

Oh dear, another long paragraph.  Well, why not?  It got me over 200 words.  I will just add that something else I have become comfortable with is pecking in one letter at a time with the stylus on my Tablet.  I look at past posts and see how I have lamented doing so.  Now it is my usual method, and ten-finger typing is a rare treat.

Lame Is As Lame Does

Have I used that title before? No matter. I typed it in and it stays. This is my sadly usual late Lame Post Friday post. I make no apologies but merely mention it in the interests of accuracy.

I have not had coffee yet but I think my lovely husband Steven is getting me some now. And, yes, I call him lovely largely because of the coffee. Ahh yes, here it is: the magic elixir that makes morning possible.

As I type this (one letter at a time with the stylus; I really must get a new laptop) (I certainly am a stickler for accuracy this morning), I contemplate the day ahead. I really want to do something other than sit around and watch movies. Of course that is a pleasant way to spend a Saturday or any available day, but today I want something more.

Here is a funny thing I add for entertainment purposes: when I typed in “that is a” my predictive text suggested ” horrifying thought.” I find that highly amusing. One woman’s pleasant is another’s horrifying thought. I can think of a few horrifying thoughts but will strive to stay positive.

My positive thought for this morning is that I will find something blogworthy to do today. Yes, I have a history of writing posts on arguably non-blogworthy subjects. However, I am no hand at argument. On the brighter side: I am over 200 words. Bring on Saturday!

Am I Lame? Or Just a Lush?

Ah yes, Lame Post Friday (why did my predictive text thingy not offer me “Post Friday” when I typed in “Lame”?  I’m just asking). I have had a long-ish week.  Not as bad as some, not as onerous as others, and I am SO ready for a three day weekend!  OF COURSE  I am grateful for said weekend.  I KNOW some people do not get one.  For heaven’s sake, I used to be one of those people,  get off my back about the gratitude already!  Sheesh!

Where was I?  Ah yes sitting on my deck, trying to make some semblance of a blog post before the wine really kicks in and I fall asleep.   Don’t judge me.

We started our evening at a wine tasting at Valley Wine and Liquor in Herkimer, NY.  So fun!  I would in fact like to write a whole blog post about it so will say no more now.  After sipping some wine we  went to the End Zone Pub and Grub on North Main Street, where we had some more wine and a little food.

There is not much else to tell about my Friday.  Only that my predictive text thingy does not seem to be offering such responsive suggestions as it has in the past.  I really must get back to ten-fingered typing.  In the meantime, this will have to do for this week’s Lame Friday Post.   I hope you are all having a delightful start to your weekend.

Please Excuse Mohawk Valley Girl…

Is this great or what?  I am typing in my blog post on an honest to goodness computer.  I am at the Martha Canfield Library in Arlington, VT.  Oh dear, any nefarious persons reading this, do not bother going to rob my house; it has NOT been left unoccupied.  Moreover, there is nothing there worth stealing.  However, if you do not believe me and try, please tidy up while you are there, because I left a mess.  My one regret is that I did not bring my reading glasses and must tilt my head at an uncomfortable angle.  How silly of me.

My other discomfort is that these keys I am typing on are not silent.  I can hear myself thump-thump-thumping on them and can only hope it does not bother any other library patrons.  At least, I don’t know if there are any other library patrons.  The parking lot was empty when I pulled in, causing me to fear the library was not open.  However, I could possibly bother the nice lady behind the desk.

Yes, this is a Wuss-out Wednesday post, which may only be enjoyed by myself, and in fact I am enjoying the ten-fingered typing so painstakingly acquired the summer before 10th grade.  It is quite my favorite skill.  What I really need to let readers know is that due to my being out of town, visiting family for a sad reason, I may not be able to post every day, for the next few.  I know, I know, I should have planned ahead, maybe had a few posts waiting in the wings.  I think we all know, I don’t work that way, more shame to me.

In any case, if and when I can get back on a library or other computer, I make a note to myself: do not forget reading glasses.  My neck does not like all this head tilting!

Library Looking Good

I went to Basloe Library in Herkimer this morning,  to get on the computer and to check on the status of their renovations.  I brought my Tablet with me to get a few pictures.  Now I am at home on my Tablet, typing in my blog post one letter at a time.  Note to self:  Next time you go to the library, plan ahead, so you can type in your blog post with all ten fingers, as God intended.

Where was I?  Ah yes at the library, admiring the surroundings.

Here’s a cozy looking area.

There were some comfortable chairs in the library before, but the last time I was in there, this space was occupied by the temporary information desk.

I especially like the big windows.

I guess I needed a flash. It is quite a sunny day today.

I like being able to look out a window when I’m writing, which is something I often go to the library to do.  With that in mind, I was really happy to see a couple of well-placed tables.

One of the tables was already in use.

I asked the nice young man if he minded being in the picture for my blog.  I told him to keep doing what he was doing, so it would be like a candid.

I hope to write more about the library renovations,  with more pictures.  In the meantime, this makes a nice change from my usual Monstrous Monday.   And I can share monster pictures later in the week.
