For a Sunday Post, It Will Have To Do

It is SO Wrist to Forehead Sunday today!  I don’t want to make a post.  I don’t want to do anything!  What a bum!

The only reason I am typing anything at all (as Truman Capote famously said, “That’s not writing, that’s typing”) is that I do not want to be typing at 4 a.m. tomorrow.  I know, I said posting in the morning was going to be a thing, but I don’t want to HAVE to do it. Am I making sense?  Probably not,  but as usual, I ask you to bear with me.

We had a fun time earlier with our friend Kim at the End Zone Pub and Grub.  There is not much else I can say about that, and, alas, I did not take pictures.  Pictures always do pep up a post, don’t they?

Isn’t she pretty?

Just to prove that point, I put in a picture of Kim.  This is at Dikin Durt Distillery in Herkimer, NY.  That lets me include another plug for a local business.  I need to get back to Dikin Durt soon.  I could use another bottle of moonshine for coffee of questionable moral fiber purposes.

So this is my blog post for today.  Two small plugs for local businesses and a little whining about How I Can’t Make a Post.  It will have to do.

Just to also include a picture of the End Zone.

Am I Lame? Or Just a Lush?

Ah yes, Lame Post Friday (why did my predictive text thingy not offer me “Post Friday” when I typed in “Lame”?  I’m just asking). I have had a long-ish week.  Not as bad as some, not as onerous as others, and I am SO ready for a three day weekend!  OF COURSE  I am grateful for said weekend.  I KNOW some people do not get one.  For heaven’s sake, I used to be one of those people,  get off my back about the gratitude already!  Sheesh!

Where was I?  Ah yes sitting on my deck, trying to make some semblance of a blog post before the wine really kicks in and I fall asleep.   Don’t judge me.

We started our evening at a wine tasting at Valley Wine and Liquor in Herkimer, NY.  So fun!  I would in fact like to write a whole blog post about it so will say no more now.  After sipping some wine we  went to the End Zone Pub and Grub on North Main Street, where we had some more wine and a little food.

There is not much else to tell about my Friday.  Only that my predictive text thingy does not seem to be offering such responsive suggestions as it has in the past.  I really must get back to ten-fingered typing.  In the meantime, this will have to do for this week’s Lame Friday Post.   I hope you are all having a delightful start to your weekend.

Diamond Days are Under Way!

I just got back from checking out day one of the Herkimer Diamond Days Street Festival, and thought I would make a quick post plugging the event.

Can you read it? My Tablet would not let me zoom in.

My husband Steven and I went down to the End Zone Pub and Grub, because I wanted a cup of the Gem Juice which I so enjoyed during previous Diamond Days.

We were sitting at the table on the right for a while.

We had a couple of drinks and got some food from a food truck.  The food trucks vended from 5 to 7 p.m.  Live music began at 8 p.m. with Jenny & The Buckshot 5.  We were not there that long, unfortunately.

Where the music was going to play.

One view of the vendors.

Our view as we walked back to our car.

Diamond Days continue on Saturday Aug. 3 with food and street vendors, a dunk tank,  performances and more.  Most events take place on North Main Street.  One exception is the Herkimer Elks Lodge Car Show in Meyer’s Park.  Herkimer County Historical Society will hold their book sale and the History Mystery further up N. Main Street.  Additionally, tours of the 1834 Jail will be offered.

Walk to a Watering Hole on Wuss out Wednesday

Today’s post will be part Wuss-out Wednesday part shout-out to a local business,  It has been such a sticky-icky day there was not much I could do.  Earlier I went to Salvation Armani, as it is sometimes called, and found a couple pieces for my costume for Mummer’s Along the Mohawk.  Sometime later, I walked downtown, and that will form the basis of my blog post.

I planned to cash in a couple lottery tickets, mail a letter, and have a drink at a local watering hole.  I did not take many pictures along the way.

It doesn’t look like much right now, but…

I took a picture of the space where Glory Days used to be, because I noticed the bushes growing.  I thought it might be nice to document how they looked before they took over the whole space.

I continued my walk,  taking no further pictures before I arrived at one of my favorite watering holes, the End Zone Pub and Grub.  I sat at the bar and ordered a glass of wine.  Eventually my husband  Steven joined me.

We had the place to ourselves for a while.

We had to wait a while for the kitchen to start cooking,  but that was OK.  We spent some of the time chatting with the owner, Brock.

Two handsome men.

Eventually we had cheeseburgers which were yummy.   We enjoyed our time at the End Zone Pub and Grub,  and now we are home.  Happy Wednesday,  everyone!

Planning Theatre Fun

I was up to some theatre shenanigans,  or I guess some pre-theatre shenanigans while patronizing a local business this afternoon, so I thought, “This has blog post written all over it! ”  Accordingly, I took a couple of pictures.

The always delightful Phyllis and Jim.

My friends Phyllis, Jim and Kim met at the End Zone Pub and Grub in Herkimer,  NY to discuss the possibility of Jim directing a play with Ilion Little Theatre this fall.  I read the play under consideration this morning, and I gave it my stamp of approval.

I think Kim should be one of the leading ladies.

We had a delightful time, hanging out and chatting.  I asked the bartender for a picture,  for blogging purposes.

The bartenders name is Jenn.

Of course I had to get a picture of my three friends.  Kim once played Jim’s trophy wife in a murder mystery,  and they never got a divorce.

Yes, Jim is quite the ladies’ man.

After I took that shot, I asked Jenn to photobomb.  Does it still count as a photobomb if you ask someone to do it?  I hope so.

You can see how much fun we’re having.

I’ll have more information about the play once plans are finalized, dates are set, etc.  In the meantime,  I wouldn’t mind a few more planning sessions at the End Zone Pub and Grub!

Fun Times, No Apologies

I had a couple of Mohawk Valley Adventures today, but I am going to concentrate on the last one, which I just got home from.

I had just finished a glass of red wine (yes, full disclosure: I drank and typed), and there were a few checks to be mailed out.  My choices were to drive to the liquid store to buy more red wine, stopping at the post office first,  or walk to the post office,  then walk on to the End Zone Pub and Grub to purchase a glass of red wine. I chose the latter.

I got my glass of cabernet sauvignon and opened my notebook to write, but I quickly became involved in a conversation and did not write a word in my notebook.

I think they’re both pretty cute, but of course I am not in the market.

Eventually I asked the bartender and one of the people I was talking to if I could take a picture for my blog post.   They graciously agreed.

I did not ask permission from the other folks in this one, but you can’t really see them, can you?

I took a couple more pictures,  once I realized I was not going to get any writing done so I may as well get a blog post out of it.

Not a bad shot of the front, or do I flatter myself?

I had a fun time at the End Zone Pub and Grub. I may go back again soon.

They are located at 129 Main St., Herkimer,  NY, phone number 315-219-5796.  They are open noon to 2 a.m. Thursday through Sunday,  2 p.m. to 2 a.m. Monday through Wednesday.

I’m not saying I won’t be there tomorrow.

Scattered Halloween Movies?

It is that dreadful moment on a Saturday when you know you must make a post but you have already started drinking and are not at all sure you have anything to say.

So what else is new?  At least I have had a fun Saturday, so I will attempt a Scattered Saturday post and hope it does not sound too foolish.

I got up at a sort of normal hour (for normal people, which we all know I am NOT one of) and went running.  After a shower, some food, and an attempt to return to normalcy, I wrote a few postcards and walked to the post office to mail them. Steven nicely walked with me.  It was lovely weather and a lovely walk with my husband.

Much later, I got together with my friend Kim.  Our original plan was to go to Ilion Little Theatre to look for costumes for Shattered Angel, the play being presented by Herkimer County Historical Society in cooperation with Ilion Little Theatre.  Instead we went to New 2 You Consignment Shop in Ilion where we each found some great things for ourselves.  It was fun.

Then we picked up my husband Steven for a wine tasting at Ilion Wine and Spirits.  After some sipping and buying we went to downtown Herkimer.  We got a couple slices at Papaleo’s Wise Guys Pizzeria and took them to End Zone Pub across the street.  We had a delightful time eating, drinking, and chatting with folks.

Now we are home, watching Halloween movies while I make my blog post.  The best thing about that was a Freudian typo of “Scatterday” instead of “Scattered Saturday.”  I may use that next week. In the meantime, Happy Saturday, everyone, and I hope you are all enjoying Halloween movies soon.

A Lame Apology

How embarrassing is it to not post on Lame Post Friday?  For heaven’s sake, all I have to do is type in some nonsense and hit Publish (YES, that is what I do every day, what an obvious joke, you should be ashamed of yourself) (you know who you are).  Well, I just didn’t have time.

You see, I had to be in Little Falls early for the Canal Days Parade, and of course I did not have my costume together in advance (it’s been a bad week) (or I guess you could say I’ve been bad this week, but I would point out that that is an unkind remark).  No problem; I could post afterward.  Well, afterward, my friend Kim and I went to Asteroga Ale House, then to the End Zone Pub via Papaleo’s Wise Guys Pizzeria.  Yes, that is one community event and three local businesses I can write blog posts about.  However,  I am unlikely to do any such thing at 5:37 on Saturday morning (that is the time on the bottom of my computer as I type that sentence; no doubt it will be later by the time I hit Publish, but I can’t help that).

I know I have sipped and posted, and even sipped, eaten pizza, and posted, but last night I did not.  My only lame excuse is we had a kind of a domestic crisis when we got home.  The screws in our back door hinges are perpetually loose and this time we have neglected too long to tighten them.  We at least managed to get the damn thing closed and locked, but I just imagine our efforts to fix it will make another, possibly humorous blog post.

Anyways, sorry my post is late and lame, but there it is.  We’ll see what I can come up with later today.

Interrupted Scattered Saturday

I’m watching a Dateline on my DVR, but in a rather desultory fashion, because I think Steven might want to watch it with me later, and I thought it would be a good time to make my Scattered Saturday post.  For another reason, I want to stay on the computer in case a couple of friends message me about returning to the Diamond Days festivities downtown.  The vendors are leaving at six, but music continues till midnight.  And I would imagine I could get another Gem Juice at the End Zone Pub and Grub (see yesterday’s post).

That was as much as I had typed in earlier when my friend Wayne messaged me that he was down there already.  OF COURSE we wanted to join him!  We met at the End Zone.  I had another Gem Juice.  We sat and drank and visited.  Eventually we got a table outside.  A long time later our friend Kim joined us.  I only had one Gem Juice, but then I had two gin and tonics.

I am home now.  I am still feeling tipsy.  We had a delightful time in downtown Herkimer.  I am in no condition to make a good blog post about it. I am only happy I can type in this much. Happy Saturday, everyone.  I hope to see you all on Wrist to Forehead Sunday.

Diamond Daze on Lame Post Friday

So Herkimer Diamond Days kicked off this evening.  I noticed folks setting up for a chicken barbecue and food trucks while I was running this afternoon (short, muggy run, not worthy of a Runny Commentary post). I got home and told Steven what I had seen.

“I wanted to get a beer and sit in front of the End Zone Pub,” I told him.

To my surprise, he said, “Let’s do it.”

We did.  Our friend Kim joined us.  What a fun time!

The End Zone’s kitchen was closed, but Kim and I got beers and we sat down at a table on the sidewalk.  Steven checked out that food trucks and one that offered hot dogs (I foolishly did not get its name).  He has been craving a hot dog.  He got a hot dog and french fries.  It looked so good that I went and got a hot dog for myself.  Yes, I ate some of Steven’s fries, don’t judge me! We settled down and watched the crowd.

Steven got a drink after he got his food.  After Kim and I finished our beers, we wanted to try something called Gem Juice.  For one reason, you got to keep the cup.  In fact, the cup was only a plastic one with a beer logo on it.  I was hoping for something about the Diamond Days or at least the End Zone.  However, the drink was damn tasty.  It was gin, run, vodka and clear fruit juice.  They told me the exact proportions, in case I wanted to make it myself at home, but I do not remember what they were.

“I can just add more to taste,” I suggested.  I am more fond of gin than of vodka.  On the other hand, I am not at all sure I will be trying this recipe at home any time soon.

Full disclosure:  the Gem Juice gave me a bit of a buzz.  I don’t drink much of the hard stuff lately, I guess it goes right to my head.  The point is, we had fun.  And it is Lame Post Friday.  I hope your Friday is equally as fun.
