Produce-tive Sunday

I have been wanting to up my salad intake to help meet my weight loss goals.  Naturally I wanted to boost a local business as well.  With that in mind, I headed to Jiuliano Farms on Rt. 5 in Schuyler, NY.

I wasn’t sure this would be a good picture, but I guess it turned out OK.

I got some peppers, blueberries, grape tomatoes, milk and cheese.

Loves me some blueberries.

They have tables to sit down at, to enjoy some coffee and a danish.  Yes, I got a couple of turnovers for good measure.

Yum!

I also left my Tablet and notebook at the cash register and had to hurry back in to get it.  They had nicely set it aside for me.  I am such a ninny!

A few more goodies I had to pick from.

I also drove to Little Falls to AW Greenhouse Garden.  I purchased some Johnny Jump-ups from them earlier in the year.  Now they are selling produce, along with the cheeses, sauces and dips they also offer.

I did not need onions, but those were some nice looking red ones!

I got some Roma tomatoes, banana peppers, and pickling cucumbers.  Full disclosure:  I plan to eat the cucumbers un-pickled.

I was also tempted by the great big tomatoes.

At the last minute I grabbed some cheese curds, of which I ate a few on my way home.  I am really looking forward to the salads I plan to make!

Juliano Farms is located at  2357 State Rte. 5 in Schuyler, NY.   AW Greenhouse Garden is at 463 W. Main St. in Little Falls.  You can Like them both on Facebook.

Feeling Sapped on Saturday

It was another Saturday without much scatter to it.  In my defense, I ran for over an hour (63 minutes, to be exact), and that really takes it out of me.  I spent the rest of the day wanting to take a nap.  Of course when I finally laid down and tried to take one, I had no luck at all.  These things happen to insomniacs like me.

My friend Kim and I went to a neighbor’s garage sale and got a few good buys.  The neighbor missed the Village Wide Sales, because he had to work, but he seemed to be getting a good number of shoppers.

After shopping, Kim and I hung out with Steven on the deck, his favorite spot to be these days.  We had some good laughs, as we usually do.  After Kim left, Steven and I went inside and watched Creepshow, one of the DVDs I had just purchased.  I have to say we were a little disappointed. When we watch it again, I may fast forward through the boring parts.

So this is turning out to be a dull blog post.  Could the hot weather be sapping me of all entertainment value?  SAY IT AIN’T SO!!!  In any case, I see I am over 200 words.  I’ll try to be more entertaining on Wrist to Forehead Sunday.

Sharon and Susan Love Friday

This morning, when I still had high hopes of this being a good blog post, I took a couple of pictures of flowers in our yard.

I love my Rose of Sharon.

The picture I took of our Rose of Sharon earlier this week was rendered problematic by the placement of the sun.  Today I got out in the morning, when the sun was conveniently placed on the other side of the house.

A slightly better angle.

I took two views, although I see now that they are none too different.  No matter.  I feel they are different enough to include both.

I feel a little brave, showing my lack of attention to weeding.

I have a few more blooms in my Black-eyed Susans.  As I took the picture, I scolded myself about all the weeds.  As I have said before, I really must up my gardening game.  I did not take another picture of my Brown-eyed Susans,  because they did not look much different from the last picture I took.

This is the last picture I took.

I hope this is sufficient for a Floral Friday Post (is that a real category?  I guess it is now).  In any case, I guess it is enough for Lame Post Friday.  Let us move on to our weekend, shall we?

Another Theatre Throwback

I meant to go to a Mohawk Valley business today for my blog post, but it did not work out.  I am having some serious problems with energy and motivation these days.  Yes, yes, I know:  motivation follows action.  If I do something, anything, I will find my motivation.  The fact is, I had a very enjoyable day reading a book then watching true crime shows on television.  Judge me if you are so inclined.

However, blog posts must be written, at least my blog posts by me, according to my rules for me.  Maybe I could do another Throwback Thursday Post. Or perhaps some Mid-week Monsters.  I’ll look in my Media Library and see what moves me.

Here’s a fun bunch!

Here are some members of Ilion Little Theatre, about to participate in the Doodah Parade last July.  Alas, there were no Ilion Days this year, but let us not dwell on sad things.

I cast a spell on you!

As long as I am remembering the Doodah, here I am, about to participate in the 2018 parade.

A dramatic moment.

I do not seem to have any pictures from the 2017 Doodah Parade,  but here is a picture from July 2017 of The Tempest, presented by LiFT,  Little Falls Theatre Company.  Oh, it has been too long since LiFT has done Shakespeare!  A group of us was trying to revive things in 2020, but it was not to be.

I miss my theatre friends.  Perhaps one day soon we can get dramatic again.  In the meantime,  I see I am over 250 words. I call that respectable, and I’ll see what I can do about having some New Mohawk Valley adventures soon.

I Get My Butt Kicked

I started to make a Running Commentary Post this morning but had a headache.  I wonder if I can do it now.  We shall see.

It was raining when I got up,  around 4:30 (I went to bed early last night), so I turned on the coffee and relaxed for a while.  That also gave me time to drink water.  Water and coffee, it should have been an awesome run!

Of course it was not.  When do things ever go the way I expect them to?  NEVER!  As soon as I started running, my legs started complaining.  What the hell, I had to ask.  I HAVE been running on a regular basis.  I had had it in my head to run the kick-buttest hill in my area.  As I ran toward it, I questioned my intentions.  Never mind, I told myself, just keep going.

On the way to said hill, I went up the hill by Valley Health.  It was hard!  I thought, this is it for me.  I would keep running a long run, but no more hills.  I ran on toward the kick-butt hill but intended to take the last possible turn to avoid it.  Naturally I second guessed myself about this.  How could I train properly if I did not run challenging hills?  Then again, I have plenty of time before my Virtual Boilermaker 15K to run hills.  Then yet again… if dithering burned calories, I would have no problems meeting my weight loss goals.

As I approached the hill and the avoiding turn, I observed a couple of pick-up trucks with some workmen near a house.  I thought I would greet them.  I like to greet people when I run.  The avoiding turn was right before the house they were at.  Oh, heck, I thought to myself, let’s get our butt kicked.

“Good morning, fellas,” I said.  One man turned around and returned the greeting.

“I is about to get my butt kicked,” I said.  He laughed.

And I proceeded to do just that.  This hill goes on and on and up and up.  Yikes!  I have done it a few times in recent memory.  They are not good memories.

However, I persevered and made it to the top.  Yay, me!  What a pleasure to go downhill after!  I went up a couple shorter hills before the end of my run.  I laughed at them.  When I am running with others and we come to a hill, I like to say, “Hill schmill, this ain’t no hill, we got this stinkin’ hill!”

So I ended up being happy I ran the kick-butt hill.  I went on to run for a total of 57 minutes, which is my current longest time (set this past Sunday).  Then I felt tired and headachey for the rest of the day.  What’s that all about?  I thought exercise was supposed to make you feel better!

No matter.  I ran.  I blogged.  I wait to see what tomorrow will bring.

Few Accomplishments on Tired Tuesday

I did not do anything bloggable today.  I went for a short run this morning, during which my legs said, “What’s up with this?  We didn’t sign up for this!” and my breathing went, well, “puff, pant, puff.”  I went shopping for a couple of things, but not to the locally owned, distinctive stores I love (sorry, folks, sometimes I need mass produced items).  My only real accomplishments were a load of laundry and two letters.  And I fear they were short, illegible, and uninteresting.

Oh dear, now it seems I am making a whiny blog post.  Let me share one of the pictures I took this afternoon.

This may be a metaphor for my life.

This is my driveway and front walk.  I have been meaning to do something about all these weeds.  I mean something other than staring at them and shaking my head.  Yesterday, I looked up (for the second or third time), a natural spray for them and mixed up a batch.

It has vinegar, salt, and dish soap.

After first starting to pour it into a squirt bottle with holes, I located an intact squirt bottle and got to squirting.  I re-squirted again this morning, then headed out this afternoon, armed with gardening gloves, a screwdriver, and high hopes.

Which were soon dashed.  I am not sure if my weed mixture did anything at all, but it certainly was not the miracle I was hoping for.  I poked and pulled and huffed and puffed.  Soon sweat was pouring down my face and my back was aching.  I bent over, I squatted, I sat, I knelt.  I had to laugh at myself.  What a crazy old lady I must have looked like!

I persevered for a half hour, maybe a little more.  I got a lot of dirt on myself and made some amount of visible progress.  However, I did not take a picture.  Oh, OK, I will go out and take a picture now (ooh, look at me, blogging in real time).

It’s a work in progress.

You can see why I did not list this among my accomplishments for the day, especially when I mention there are a lot more cracks with weeds.  Still, I gave it a shot.  People who took care of the weeds in their walks earlier in the season, I congratulate you.  I am hoping to do better next year.  In the meantime, I hope this will do for my Tired Tuesday Post.

Planned or Not, I Got Flowers!

I thought I would do another Floral Photos Post.  For one reason, my Brown-eyed Susans started to bloom a few days ago, and I have been meaning to share a picture of them.  I noticed a few other blooms this morning, when I was trying to bring a little lawn order into my life (not very successfully,  but let us not worry about that now).  I went outside with my Tablet this evening to see what I could get.

Pretty!

I was pleased to see more blooms.  I only saw one little tiny one a few days ago.  The Brown-eyed Susans kind of magically appeared a couple of years ago.  This year, they are growing great guns.  When the other ones start to bloom,  I will take more pictures.

There were fewer Black-eyed Susans, but I am happy to get any at all.

I planted the Black-eyed Susans on purpose, having purchased the plant some nine years ago at a sale to benefit, I believe, Herkimer County Humane Society.  They have expanded as well, but their area is becoming overgrown with other things.  I must clean it out but fear it is too late in the year to do much good.

These are new.

The Queen Anne’s Lace magically appeared this year.  When I was younger, I used to pick it and put it in food coloring to dye it.

Another uninvited guest.

The purple flowers previously appeared (with no effort on my part) elsewhere in the yard.  These blooms were amongst the chives that share the bed with the Black-eyed Susans.

I was very happy to see these blooms.

I had a hard time getting a good picture of the Rose of Sharon because of where the sun was; I could not see what I was photographing.  This shows the flowers, but does not do the whole bush justice.  I will have to try again one morning.

I am happy to see more blossoms appearing as the summer wears on.  One year I may actually plan my garden to be sure of it happening.  At least, I can hope!  Happy Monday, everyone!

I’m Hot for Snapped

I myself have not snapped. Yet.

Our part of Herkimer County is under a heat advisory:  oppressive humidity with heat index into triple digits. Yes, yes, I know: folks in southern states experience worse and more often.  Hey, I lived in Georgia for a while; I’ve experienced these things.  I could still be a heat injury in New York State.

I knew we would spend most of the afternoon lounged near fans, watching television.  I did manage a nice, long run this morning.  I got out there right around sunrise, and it was 79 degrees already.  Or was it 69?  I did note down the number at the time.

Mostly we have been watching Snapped.  According to Oxygen, Sundays were made for SnappedSnapped and a glass of wine, says one meme I saw.  Full disclosure: I am forgoing the wine today, in pursuit of my weight loss goals.  I enjoy Snapped just as much without it.

It is a Scorned Lovers Marathon.  This is what I like:  a nice, personal murder for a good reason, like jealousy or greed.  Sometimes both motives are at play.  Good times.  Yes, my tastes are macabre.  Is that a problem?

So this is my Wrist to Forehead Sunday Post,  just a little rattling on about some True Crime television during a heat wave.  At least I am over 200 words.  Happy Sunday, and keep cool!

Scattered Movies After Garage Sales

Yeah, those eyes don’t look crazy!

I pause in my Saturday movie viewing to make a blog post.  I had thought to make a Scattered Saturday Post but did not take any pictures.  My friend Kim and I visited a some participants of Herkimer Village Wide Garage Sales.  It was too hot to thoroughly enjoy the exercise, although we did make a few fun purchases.  After that, we had lunch at Salvatore’s Pizzeria in Herkimer.  Ah, the air conditioning!

I returned home to find my husband, Steven, watching Remember the Titans, a very uplifting movie. Alas, I cannot find any pictures to share.  As I often say, I am not adept at these things.  We went on to a more guilty pleasure with Malice.

Oh dear, I should have included a spoiler alert!

Ah, I managed to add a photo from Malice.  We are currently watching The Bad Seed, as you may conclude from the first image in this post.  I guess there is not a theme to our movies this evening, nor even a connection from movie to movie.  However, I can content myself with the reflection that we agreed on each selection.

“May I have this dance?”

We have not discussed which movie to watch next, but I make bold to share images from House on Haunted Hill,  one of our all time favorites.  I can’t say we will watch it, but we might.

In the meantime,  I am over 200 words, so I feel free to say, Happy Saturday!

I Lame a Glass to You

So the same day I make a late post about not writing (see previous post), I also make a lame post.  In my defense, it is Lame Post Friday, my day of random observations and half-baked philosophy.  Never mind why such a post is necessary.  Explanations are so tiresome.

Likewise blog posts.

This is the illustration I wanted to put with my previous post but did not want to take the time to look for it.  I just now scrolled up and down my Media Library and finally found it.   Perhaps the time would have been better spent working on this post, but I cannot worry about that now.

This is what I’m talkin’ about!

This is not my current view, but it might be soon.  Hey, it’s Friday, and I am blessed to be in a Monday through Friday job.  I know many are not so blessed, and I thank you for your hard work.  I have been there.  No doubt many currently work harder than I did when I was there, but you’ll have that.

A toast to all who work harder than I do!

So my random observation is that many people work harder than I do.  My half-baked philosophy is that you’ll have that.  Sufficiently lame, I believe.  Happy Friday, everyone.
