Was It Something About Mice and Men?

My best-laid plans to return to daily posts are not coming to fruition. What is that quote about “best-laid plans” anyways? I cannot bring it to mind, if I ever even heard the full quote. But never mind that (although I could do a whole post about famous quotes and how they get mangled). I am just trying to make some post, any post.

I really have no excuse for not posting, other than my usual struggles with depression. I cringe a little when I type that (one letter at a time with the stylus on my Tablet, just to give you the picture). I am embarrassed to admit I let my depression keep me from doing things. I am embarrassed to admit my depression. What is depression, really, but me whining about how I don’t feel happy. What is my problem, anyways?

But, depression and other mood disorders are real problems for some people. Would I shame someone else for admitting they suffer from depression? I hope not. I hope I would encourage them to seek help. So while a part of me wants very much to delete the last paragraph, another part says, “No, let it stand. Admit you have a problem.”

Don’t all the self-help gurus say you should do the thing you fear? Well, I fear what my friends and family will think if they happen to read this post. Goodness, I just asked a co-worker yesterday if he still read my blog (he said, “Why? Did you say something about me?” I guess I just did). What if he reads this? Oh dear.

In any case, I see I am over 250 words. I think I will bill this as a Non-Sequitur Thursday Post. If only I had a good headline…

Lame Post IN the Morning ON Saturday

I tell you, it is a whole different perspective. I am sitting in the chair instead of on the couch, pecking at the Tablet with a stylus pen I was lucky enough to find (I have mislaid both actual styluses and all the other stylus pens), sipping tea, and hoping nobody minds that I did not post on Thursday. I was actually hoping nobody would notice but felt compelled to mention it, being me. Even I could not hope my readers would not notice.something I actually mentioned.

Tea does not have as much caffeine as coffee, by the way. A friend read me the amounts from a drug studies book many years ago. An acquaintance (she passed for a friend at the time) once said, “Oh, no. You can do only one or two dunks of the tea bag, that’s all!” How scientific: one or two dunks. An example of people thinking they know things for no particular reason.

I seem to be getting bogged down, but since this is my Late Lame Post Friday Post, I will continue to sludge through.

The first paragraph raised two questions in my mind. The first: why does one sit in a chair but on a couch? One can sit on a chair, but that usually refers to one of the wooden variety. I occupy a nice cushy living room chair (see what I did there?). “In” seems appropriate. However, couches are nice and cushy, too. Why do I not sit in a couch? Right now I do not because my husband, Steve, is there, sound asleep, by the way.

One might argue that Steven should be IN bed. Ooh, this one makes sense: you sit ON a bed, usually on top of the covers and try not to mess them up. You sleep IN a bed, nicely snuggled under the covers.

That was a delightful discussion, for me anyways. I will just mention my second question: what is the proper plural of styluses? My autocorrect wanted to change it to “stylized.” As usual in these disagreements, I prevailed.

I have finished my tea. Perhaps I should get on with my Saturday.

Making Lunch, Not a Blog Post

So I guess I did wuss out on Wednesday, not making any post at all. Right now it is Thursday morning, and I am pecking away on my Tablet, hoping to come up with something, anything, at least mildly entertaining. At least I have already had coffee.

In my defense, we went to Fratello’s Pizzeria in Frankfort, NY, last night, where we had a lovely evening. We feasted on garlic wings and garlic knots (take that, vampires!), and listened to a duo on drums and acoustic guitar.

I took a couple of pictures, specifically for a blog post, but I still have to upgrade to include more pictures. Perhaps I can do that after work, and write a real post about our evening.

Right now, however, I have to finish getting ready for work. I just remembered I forgot to make my lunch. Maybe I could just take my leftover chicken wings.

Nosferatu, Can You Help Me Now?

I need some monsters to cheer me up.

Depiction of my reaction to Monday.

I kind of feel like I felt yesterday: that I am saying the same things every week. Yesterday I figuratively swooned on an imaginary chaise lounge. Today I post pictures of monsters. I fear I have gotten into a blogging rut.

I fear this guy more than a rut!

It is too late in the day to undertake any drastic changes. The best I can do is to try to make this a different Monstrous Monday than in weeks past. To that end, I put in two pictures of Nosferatu. Regular readers know he is my favorite guy, but I usually only put one picture of him.

Bottom right, but really I love them all.

As usual, I am having trouble navigating my Media Library. An additional problem is, I do not have a stylus handy so am typing with a sore fingertip. These are what we call First World Problems. I am ashamed to complain. I guess I could backspace it out, but I need the word count.

That was when I started really having problems so gave it up, read my book and went to sleep. I am reading Love’s Labour’s Lost by William Shakespeare. It looks like LiFT, Little Falls Theatre Company is back with Summer Shakespeare! How’s that for a Preview of Coming Attractions? I feel tremulously happy, almost unable to believe it is true.

What is true is that I am over 200 words. Phew! I need to improve my computer situation, my blogging situation, and my personal situation. Oh, these first world problems!

Late Post, Little Point

I started to write a blog post while on break at work. It was not a very good one, so I stopped working on it and worked on a cryptogram puzzle instead. Now I am home and tired as I can be, yet I still want to make a blog post.

And that was when I decided I was too tired and gave it up. Now it is Tuesday morning, and I have enough time to finish this post or make my lunch. Maybe for both?

Me with my rough draft.

So here’s a late Monstrous Monday Post. If I make it short enough, I may be able to fix my lunch. And write the post card I just now remembered I meant to do.

Who me? Have a glass of wine?

Full disclosure: I did not have a glass of wine yesterday. I almost put “did not enjoy a glass of wine,” but that could have meant I had the glass; I just didn’t enjoy it. What a sad Monday that would be!

It seems this is a rather pointless post. Reading over what I have so far, I have no ideas for a headline. Headlines are hard. That last sentence brought me to 199 words. So at least it isn’t a short post. I hope you all had a more productive Monday.

I Would Feel Spunky If I Could Do Shakespeare Again

Last night, I told myself all I needed to do was make a Throwback Thursday Post. How hard could that be, I argued. Choose a couple of pictures, peck in a few words… that is, on my Tablet. Then I thought about how finicky my Tablet has been concerning my WordPress Media Library, and I was so tired anyways… So here I am, prior to five Friday morning, on my still-hanging-by-a-thread laptop, ten-finger typing, and waiting for coffee.

I must admit, I am enjoying the ten finger typing, and the coffee just showed up (Steve really is a very satisfactory husband). Let us see what I can do with the Media Library.

Adorable, yes?

I looked at March 2017 (the laptop behaving beautifully for the moment) and found this sweet picture of our dearly missed pooch, Spunky. I SO miss having a dog! My ambition is to get my house cleaned up and repaired so we can adopt another doggy friend. It is difficult as tired as I am these days, but I encourage myself to work a little at a time.

I MISS this!

I was looking for another canine photograph, but I can rarely resist a Theatre Throwback. This was an early rehearsal for The Tempest, as presented by LiFT, Little Falls Theatre Company in 2017. Too long ago! A few of us were meeting in early 2020, scheming how to bring Shakespeare back to Little Falls, but, alas, COVID intervened.

There’s no people like show people!

Here is a picture of one of our meetings, held at Meeples Mug House, which is also sadly departed (totally understood the proprietors’ reasons, but still sad).

Well, that was pretty easy, getting over 250 words (I may be over 300 by the end of this paragraph!). My headline suggested itself after I found the second picture. Does jumping subjects like this make this also a Non-Sequitur Thursday post? Discuss amongst yourselves.

(Yes, over 300 words. Teehee)

Lame for the Deadline?

Here is Yet Another Late Lame Post Friday Post. It is almost another feature here at Mohawk Valley Girl. I am feeling sad this particular Saturday morning, because the winter storm the weather forecasters threatened seems to be materializing. It’s not that I do not enjoy a Saturday spent at home, I do. But I need to have some Mohawk Valley Adventures!

Regular readers may remember that I write for Mohawk Valley Living magazine. I got the gig because Sharry Whitney, one of the publishers, read my blog. Every month I try to come up with something, sometimes coming embarrassingly close to the last minute.

Last month I had nothing, due to being sick. I am kind of sort of recovered now but have yet to return to my adventuresome ways. What to do?

I do have one or two places I could write about, places I have been to prior to getting sick. But I always like to visit a place just prior to writing. Then again, perhaps that is just me wanting to go out to eat or shop.

It is easy to beat myself up for not planning ahead, but no amount of planning would have made me recover from COVID any quicker. Then again, a certain amount of planning might have helped me get my article written despite COVID. Perhaps I can plan to do better in the future.

In the meantime, I am over 200 words. I guess I’ll call this a post.

Shout-out to Steve

I wussed out on Wednesday by not making a post at all, but that’s OK, because now it is Thursday, March 3, my husband Steven’s birthday! I will do a Shout-out to Steve! And it will be a Wordless Wednesday Post using pictures from my Media Library.

I wish we’d see them again!

Here are Steve and I (we’re on the right) with a fun couple we had just met at Fratello’s Pizzeria in Frankfort, NY. Hey, we have not been there in a while. We shall have to remedy the omission.

Fun with friends is always a good idea.

Here is Steve with our friend Jenna, at Rock Valley Brewing (formerly known as Iron Rock Brewing) in Little Falls. That is another place we need to go again.

Did Steve do it?

Here was a night we had a lot of fun! It was Donate to Murder, the murder mystery we presented to benefit the Herkimer County Historical Society. We may be doing another murder mystery soon (preview of coming attractions).

I love that moose!

I wanted to end with a picture of Steve and me. This is us at Copper Moose Ale House in Little Falls. Copper Moose recently re-opened, so that is another place we will have to go.

I guess I have managed to give a few brief shout-outs in addition to my Shout-out to Steve. Yay! And Happy Birthday, Steve!

Wanted: Inspiration. Or Garlic

I had it all planned out yesterday. I was going to go for a walk and make a Pedestrian Post, or maybe call it a Tuesday Trudge. Then it poured rain, so I went to Plan B. Only I didn’t have a Plan B. So I am sitting here with my Tablet on Wednesday morning, hoping inspiration will strike.

Some will argue that inspiration is a myth. Just write, they will say, quoting Edison and his 1% inspiration, 99% perspiration. To that I reply, you still need that 1%. After all, without one little clove of garlic, all you have is bland tomato sauce (oh yeah, like I ever use only one measly clove of garlic!) (and I suppose some people like bland tomato sauce).

Where was I? Oh yes, trying to write. I did write a bit yesterday, a couple of paragraphs in the TV Journal and a character page on a new murder mystery.

That’s right! Another murder mystery may be in my future! That will give me something else to blog about. I will have to upgrade my WordPress account so I can include pictures.

In the meantime, I am not quite at 200 words (why does autocorrect keep thinking I want to say 00 instead of 200? Is it saying my 200 words are worth nothing? Everybody’s a critic!). Does it count if I get up to 200 words by discussing that I am not at 200 words? Discuss amongst yourselves.

And What About That Play?

Regular readers may remember that before I got sick, I was going to rehearsals for a play at Ilion Little Theatre. What a terrible time to get sick! Don’t these viruses know the show must go on?

Of course, this show will go on, but sadly (for me, at least), it will go on without me. The director was willing to wait for me, when we all thought I would feel better any minute now. Alas, that has not happened. I think they got someone really good to replace me, though, so that is good news.

As for me, I returned to work yesterday but could not make it for all eight hours. I punched out after seven and had rather a miserable drive home (luckily it is only 20 minutes). This morning (as by the way, I am pecking in Monday’s post a day late), I am debating whether or not to call in entirely today.

I shall close with a plug for the play. I may not get to see it myself, but I wholeheartedly encourage local readers to do so: Game Show at Ilion Little Theatre, 13 Remington Ave., Ilion, NY (behind the factory), Feb 18, 19, 25 and 26 at 7:30 p.m., Feb 20 and 27 at 2 p.m. For more information, go to http://www.ilionlittletheatre.org/ or find their Facebook page.
