Happy 4th of July!

Is it too late to make my Fourth of July Wrist to Forehead Sunday Post? I don’t care if it is. I didn’t do a whole lot to mark the holiday. Usually I try to get some Samuel Adams beer but neglected to stop by Beer Belly Bob’s (just to slip in a plug for a local business). I drank some iced coffee from my Sam Adams glass instead.

Refreshing and patriotic!

In the afternoon, Kim and I went to visit out dear friends Phyllis and Jim. Our intent was to raise a glass of wine to a recently departed theatre friend. With that and the holiday in mind, I stopped at Ilion Wine and Spirits to get red, white and blue wine.

No, I did not drink all this wine.

We had a very nice time.

We weren’t the only guests.

I hope you all had an enjoyable Independence Day, however you celebrated it, or even if you didn’t celebrate.

More Wine for the Melting Blob!

Point taken.

My problem is I finished my glass of wine and I am no closer to Tuesday. At least, I guess I am a little closer. After all, I didn’t gulp the wine down all at once. But it’s no use. I’m not going to make a better blog post, as I had hoped to do. I don’t even feel like making a bad blog post. Quick, find another picture to lighten the mood.

I’m about this green, but my teeth are not as white.

This is part of my problem: the heat and humidity continue. I know other parts of the country are worse. There is a reason I do not live in those areas. I am sure there are other people more uncomfortable than I am. They have all my sympathy. But I still feel like crap.

An even more accurate self portrait.

No, THIS is me! The Blob! Shapeless, slimy, and getting bigger all the time! Where is Steve McQueen to put me in my place? Come to think of it…. Spoiler Alert! … at the end of the picture, they dumped the Blob in Antarctica or some such place. It should happen to me!

Well, I still feel hot and uncomfortable, but now I’m laughing at myself. That is not bad for a Monstrous Monday.

Me Whine? On Monstrous Monday?

I am going to make a Monstrous Monday Post. For one reason, I recently downloaded a really cool picture.

A f

And I STILL can’t add a caption! Anyways, this is Vincent Price, William Castle, and friends.

The other reason I wanted to do a Monstrous Monday Post is that I am TIRED! I do not want to go on about it, though. It would constitute whining. I hate to be called a whiner. Come to think about it, usually when somebody says I’m whining, I don’t feel I really am. Do others have that experience? I would imagine they do.

But I digress. Perhaps I could find a picture of a whiny monster, just to tie things together.

I don’t know that I would call this whining, but no doubt somebody would. At least we can agree it is a monster (I just KNOW somebody out there is disagreeing) (you know who you are).

If I can find just one more monster picture, I can get to 200 words, hit Publish, and call this a blog post. These are my rules for me. Judge me if you are so inclined.

Waaaait a minute! That’s not a monster, that’s me! I guess I can be monstrous at times. And isn’t it better to wine than whine? Discuss amongst yourselves.

Wayback Winesday

I was hoping for a Wayback Wednesday Post but am not sure if I can find and share appropriate pictures. We shall see.

Cheers!

I found this in my Media Library. It is my friend Phyllis and me at Gerber’s 1933 Tavern in Utica, NY. This was taken in July 2017. The last time I drove through Utica, the Tavern was closed and inaccessible due to all the construction. However a quick check of Facebook just now tells me they will re-open soon. Yes! I love that place!

Jail bird!

When I typed in about Gerber’s just now, I first called it the 1834 Tavern. What was I thinking? Obviously I was flashing on the famous 1834 Jail on Herkimer’s Historic Four Corners. The above picture is my husband Steve, taken on a long ago walk. I would like to take walks with my husband again sometime. For one reason, it would make a good blog post.

More good cheer!

Harking back to wine with friends (Wednesday Winesday?), here are my friend Tracy and I at the Waterfront Grille in Herkimer, NY. I know they are currently open. I can pop in there while I wait for Gerber’s to open. I just need to grab a friend!

W(h)ining About Monday

Who me? Drink wine?

I thought I would open with a picture. In fact, it has not been a particularly heinous Monday. However, I am tired and disinclined to make anything but a Monstrous Monday Post. Can I find any good monsters to share? We shall see.

She’s so fine!

This, of course, is Bonita, our year-round skeleton who lives in our living room. This was her October outfit. I found the hat at a rummage sale. I think it is for a small dog. The black tulips, which I’m afraid do not show up very well, were made by my clever theatre friend, Jerry, for a murder mystery called Spring into Murder.

Another friend.

This is Harold Ghoul (get it?). I got him at a neighbor’s yard sale. I don’t know what they used to call him.

That says it all.

This is not turning out to be much of a blog post. I guess my bottom line is, I don’t like Mondays. I am embarrassed to admit it, because it is such a cliche. I hate to follow the crowd! Unless the crowd is drinking wine. Teehee.

Monsters, Wine, or Whine?

Here I am, ready to make my Monstrous Monday Post. Will I be able to navigate my Media Library and find monster pictures to share? Will I be able to find new monster pictures? A little suspense adds interest to my post.

Here’s one of my favorites.

This was from my Media Library, shared as recently as March 1. First I looked at some of the free photos offered by WordPress. I found one I liked, but when I went to share it, I saw it had a caption telling who took the picture. I wasn’t clear on whether or not I was obligated to include this information so opted not to use the photo.

Who is this guy?

I liked the look of this one. A scary creature, an action shot, this peps up the post. I wish it would pep me up. I am so tired and wordless! I had a pretty crappy day. Of course most of my woes can be explained with the words Operator Error. So I must not complain.

Wait a minute! This isn’t a monster!

In fact, I have not had any wine this evening. I am sipping seltzer with lemon out of a wine glass, and that is almost as good. Additionally, I am not a fan of giving up. As the quote from the movie Galaxy Quest goes, “Never give up! Never surrender!”

However, perhaps the meme means to give it up for tonight, or to give up worrying about it. This calls for more philosophy than I am up for on a Monday. On the brighter side, I am over 250 words. I call that respectable. I’m going to shut up and hit Publish, before I really start to whine.

I Wasn’t a Heel at Heelpath

I noticed in a picture on Facebook that Heelpath Brewing in Frankfort, NY, now has plastic bubbles for outdoor seating in inclement weather. I suggested to my friend Kim that we check it out. For another reason, Heelpath serves wine from Rustic Ridge Winery of Burlington Flats. Yum!

We noticed as we approached the building that there is also an enclosure attached to the side of the building. Some people were in it at the time. After they left, I suggested we move there, but by then we were comfortable at the bar and chatting up the bartender.

The obligatory picture of Kim with a drink.

I did take a picture of the new seating options.

The butt receptacle is usually outside.
Looks summery to me.

Heelpath was doing a good Saturday afternoon business. Some of the patrons graciously allowed me to take their pictures for blogging purposes.

I did not get names.
The tap in the center of that table is for decorative purposes only.

Everybody was having a good time, including me. Heelpath Brewing is located at 122 Marina Park, Frankfort, NY, phone number 315-444-9005. They are open 2 to 7 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, 2 to 10 p.m. Friday, noon to 10 p.m. Saturday, and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.

I Sip Wine and Contemplate Saturday

So it’s Lame Post Friday and here I sit without much to say. I know, when has that ever stopped me? I have been having a pleasant evening, sipping wine and watching true crime television.

Previous occasion with wine.

This photo was not taken tonight; in fact, I am not even drinking white wine. But I thought it was an apt illustration. I do not rule out having a libation in a public place, masked and socially distanced, of course, at some point this weekend.

I have other plans to accomplish first, however. I mean to go running, even if it is cold and blustery. I have a few Mohawk Valley Adventures in mind, some real writing to do, and, of course, a house to clean.

Lots of merchanse to browse.

Just to throw in an example of a potential adventure, here is a picture of Rose Quartz Stand, a gem store on Mohawk Street in Herkimer, NY. I need to support my favorite local businesses, not just the bars and liquor stores!

Another Herkimer destination.

Another spot I could visit is Renewed and Rescued, part of Mohawk Valley Community Market on North Main Street in Herkimer. Full disclosure: Steven and I browsed there last Saturday before going to the End Zone Pub and Grub. I should have mentioned it in the blog post.

Whatever I do, I hope to make a good blog post about it. As always, I hope you’ll stay tuned.

Any Excuse for a Good Time!

I have been trying to support my local businesses lately. Or is that just my handy excuse for going out and having a good time? In either case, we had a good time this afternoon at the End Zone Pub and Grub in Herkimer, NY.

We wore our masks in, and put them back on if we left our seats. They have their barstools spaced the required six feet apart, but Steve and I were allowed to move ours closer together, since we are of the same household.

Steve and our delightful bartender.

We drank some wine and ate French fries and boneless chicken wings. I feared I would regret consuming deep fried stuff, both from an upset tummy and weight gain aspects, but, yum.

Our friend Kim joined us. Brianna, the bartender, saved her our mini wine bottles. Kim recently started making trolls using them.

She’s so creative.

I’ll have to get a few shots of the finished product. In the meantime, I am happy to contribute to Kim’s creative endeavors with my cabernet consumption. Or is that another handy excuse?
