Monsters Help Me Over the Hump

Believe me, I saw the hump!

I promised myself I could do a Mid-Week Monsters Post, and I especially wanted to use the photo above. I really don’t have a whole lot to say other than, “Yay, I’m over halfway through the week!” But that’s all right, because all I have to do is find monster pictures in my Media Library. Yay monsters!

They were a lovely couple.

Instead of a movie monster, I share Bridezilla and her Groom from the Halloween party at Herkimer VFW last October. After they posed, Bridezilla had to laugh at herself, because she was smiling for the picture behind her mask, as if we could see her.

Another cute couple.

Continuing with non-movie monsters, here are our skeletons Bonaparte and Bonita. Bonita is in her Halloween outfit. It is just about time for her to put on her Easter outfit. And for us to put away our Christmas decorations, although I don’t like to rush into anything.

Death takes a bow,

This handsome fellow was also at the Halloween party at the VFW. I thought it would be a good picture to close with since he seems to be taking a bow. As a well-known theatre geek, I love a good curtain call.

Blog Post to Nowhere

I think I can just about manage a Tired Tuesday Post. But no promises. How pathetic am I? Well, I will try not to whine too much. The fact that I am tired but attempting to blog ought to encourage me; on previous tired evenings, I have just said to heck with it and gone to bed. And I haven’t always said “heck.”

Hmm…. It seems no words are forthcoming. I am in my bed pecking away at my Tablet. I knew when I headed up the stairs that I had little idea what to post about. I trusted my meager brain to come up with something. Regular readers know, as I do, that sometimes it does.

I have been trying to write more during the day, before work, on breaks, even after work. Sometimes it goes well, sometimes not so much. Sometimes all I can do is reach for my puzzle book and work on a cryptogram puzzle. Sometimes all three things happen in rapid succession.

Some writers do not find writing to be so mysterious. They just sit down and write. I am tempted to ask their secret but on reflection, I fear they do not know what it is themselves. They would probably give me a scornful lecture on discipline and recommend me not to be such a lazy, whiny baby. I don’t need that; I can beat myself up, thank you.

Where was I going with this? I guess I was just hoping to reach 200 words, and I have. Thank you for bearing with me.

Shopping for Steve

I missed a chance to give a shout-out to a local business last week. The reason was I had shopped there for my husband, Steve’s birthday and did not want to spoil the surprise. Now I can repair that omission and blog about the Rose Quartz Stand in Herkimer, NY.

I love those animals! The skulls are nice, too.

I wanted to get Steve a little stone animal. We have a small collection which I add to little by little. We keep them on a shelf surrounding the two boxes containing the ashes of our much missed dogs.

Of course I walked all around the store looking at all the items. Stones, crystals and minerals, both raw and carved, as well as other items.

Sometimes I walk up and down the aisles several times.

I picked out a tiger with red eyes. Then I selected a small angel. When I was at the register paying for them, I impulsively added a little gold bell.

I like the shiny ones best.

Full disclosure: these pictures are from my Media Library, July 2020. I still have not upgraded my WordPress site to allow new photos. However, the shop looks remarkably similar now to what it did then. I highly recommend you stop in and check it out.

The Rose Quartz Stand is located at 105 Mohawk St., Herkimer, NY. They are open Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Thursday and Friday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.; closed Sunday and Monday.

Who Me? Drink and Type?

Full disclosure: I am making this post after drinking wine. On the other hand, it is Lame Post Friday. Why the hell not?

Candice DeLong is fine, yes.

We have been enjoying episodes of Deadly Women on ID. The first two episodes were live TV, the second three On Demand (we are looking at the third as I type this). We had previously seen at least two episodes but did not remember all the details.

OK, I just spent a LONG time scrolling through my Media Library looking for one of the other Deadly Women illustrations I know are there. It is taking far too long. Is it the fault of my Tablet? My WordPress account! I don’t care!

I would like to continue this nonsense for at least 200 words (Holy crap! My autocorrect allowed me to type in 200 without trying to change it to 00!) but am sceptical of my ability to do so. Oh, the trials and tribulations!

It turns out I am not too concerned with these self-imposed parameters. I have published something, anything. I shall go back to enjoying my Friday night. And by enjoying, I mean going to bed. Or do I mean drinking more wine? A little suspense adds interest to my weekend.

By the way, it is over 200 words (this time autocorrect did try to change it to 00).

Is Throwback Thursday Getting Old?

Sweet ride!

I scrolled through my Media Library in search of pictures for a Throwback Thursday Post. I found a classic car from a car show last summer at the Frankfort Marina. That’s definitely a throwback. I do not know the model or year, but I am guessing sometime in the ’60’s. My Dad would know.

A fun movie.

I don’t have any more old car pictures, but here is the poster from an old movie. I don’t remember what year it is and am too lazy to look, but I believe it is 1930ish.

Some feel I belong in jail.

This picture is from recent years (I did not notice the date in my Media Library), but the building is the 1834 Jail in Herkimer, NY. It is one of my favorite places in town, located on my beloved Historic Four Corners. Regular readers know I run or walk by there frequently.

So I have gone from the 1960’s to the 1930’s to the 1800’s. I seem to have gotten historical. Usually I just throwback to my own past. Sometimes a change of pace is nice.

Full disclosure: I am still not feeling 100% from being sick, and right now I feel too tired for my brain to function properly. This is why I was too lazy to look up dates. However, I will feel happy tomorrow that I made some post, any post tonight. I will try for a better post next time. As always, I hope you’ll stay tuned.

Shout-out to Steve

I wussed out on Wednesday by not making a post at all, but that’s OK, because now it is Thursday, March 3, my husband Steven’s birthday! I will do a Shout-out to Steve! And it will be a Wordless Wednesday Post using pictures from my Media Library.

I wish we’d see them again!

Here are Steve and I (we’re on the right) with a fun couple we had just met at Fratello’s Pizzeria in Frankfort, NY. Hey, we have not been there in a while. We shall have to remedy the omission.

Fun with friends is always a good idea.

Here is Steve with our friend Jenna, at Rock Valley Brewing (formerly known as Iron Rock Brewing) in Little Falls. That is another place we need to go again.

Did Steve do it?

Here was a night we had a lot of fun! It was Donate to Murder, the murder mystery we presented to benefit the Herkimer County Historical Society. We may be doing another murder mystery soon (preview of coming attractions).

I love that moose!

I wanted to end with a picture of Steve and me. This is us at Copper Moose Ale House in Little Falls. Copper Moose recently re-opened, so that is another place we will have to go.

I guess I have managed to give a few brief shout-outs in addition to my Shout-out to Steve. Yay! And Happy Birthday, Steve!

Not Friday and Not 200 Words

I do feel like an idiot.

I kept thinking about this meme while I was at work today. It is the curse of the Monday through Friday worker. However, I have worked many work schedules: six on, three off; four twelve hour days, three off; retail hours with no regularity and no weekends off… Monday through Friday day shift suits me very well, if I have to work, which I do.

As you may have guessed, this is another post where I rattle on about nothing in particular till I get to 200 words. I have got to get out of the house for more than work so I can have some stuff to write about!

In the meantime, I shall bill this as a Tired Tuesday Post. I am feeling tired, as per usual. In fact, I feel too tired to rattle on for the full 200 words. I hope my readers will forgive me and tune in tomorrow, when I hope it will not be Wuss-out Wednesday.

I Had a Monstrous Time Trying to Write

I knew earlier today I would make a blog post about Not Writing. I knew it when I got to work early, took out my notebook, put pen to paper, and… no words. I don’t even know how to describe it. I usually say Writer’s Blank, as opposed to Writer’s Block, but it was more than a blank mind. It was a complete lack of mental function. Cue unkind remarks about how my mental facultlies’ functioning is sporadic at best.

At least he managed more than a blank page.

I threw in a picture of Nosferatu so I could combine a whiny I Can’t Write Post with a Monstrous Monday Post. Regular readers know how much I love my monsters.

It was quite the disappointment this morning when my brain refused to work. I suppose some people would have advised me to write anyways, that I was just being lazy or timorous, there’s no such thing as Writer’s Block! They could have a point. I did give up rather quickly.

Maybe my brain had been eaten!

The thing is, sometimes I want to give myself a break. Sometimes I am completely disinclined to sit in front of a blank page feeling huge resistance. Sometimes I just want to open my puzzle book and work on a cryptogram.

Um, I did not pour myself a glass of wine at work.

As I type this (on my Tablet, one letter at a time with the stylus, just to give you the picture), I am suddenly not inclined to let myself off the hook. For heaven’s sake, I say to myself, couldn’t I have written SOMETHING? Perhaps not the project at hand, but another project, a blog post, a letter, anything! Did I even try?

That’s it! We’ll blame it on Monday!

This self-recrimination is useless. I can’t jump into a time machine, return to this morning and try again, a little harder this time, to write. All I can do is work on the next time I put pen to paper.

In the meantime, I am over 300 words and have included a couple monsters. Let’s call it a blog post. Thank you for tuning in.

Wrist Not, Want Not

I am tired but determined to keep posting every day. With the occasional late post, of course. Right now it is Sunday evening (according to my watch; my WordPress timestamp may say something different), and I am looking at the movie Laura in a desultory fashion. It is an old favorite; I won’t lose track of what’s going on.

This blog post, I might lose track of. You see, I took a rather powerful nasal decongestant last night, the kind with a D that you have to ask the pharmacist for. The box said “non-drowsy,” and they weren’t kidding! I did not feel drowsy all night. I believe I must have dozed off a few times, but it did not feel like sleep. Sorry to whine about it. I’m just trying to give you the picture.

I guess this is a real Wrist to Forehead Sunday Post. Right now I feel too tired to pose dramatically. Me, too tired for drama? SAY IT AIN’T SO!!!

I did get a couple things done today: I wrote a letter, gassed up the car, mailed the letter, did a load of laundry. In that order. Oh, and just now I chopped up some radishes and carrots for the week’s lunches. Full disclosure: I got through all the radishes but petered out after about three carrots. My body just said, “No!” So I stopped.

And now I have made a blog post. I’m afraid it’s a pretty crappy blog post, but these things happen. I believe I have previously raised the question of whether a lousy blog post was better than no blog post at all. Does anybody remember what we decided?

Snail Mail to Cinema Saturday

I am still not up to having Mohawk Valley Adventures, so no Scattered Saturday Post. However, my husband, Steven, suggested I write a few lines about the Creature from the Black Lagoon. I did not italicize it, because I mean the character not the movie.

I saw on Facebook that Ricou Browning, the actor that played the Creature, was not doing very well, and his family was asking for cards or letters to cheer him up. Snail mail is right up my alley! When I was writing my usual Saturday morning post cards to my post card peeps, I included one for Mr. Browning.

Later on, when we got to the movie watching portion of the day, we found that we had on DVR the episode of Svengoolie when he showed Revenge of the Creature. Perfect!

I need a rubber chicken.

After the Creature, we stuck with Svengoolie and watched Tarantula. As regular readers may remember, we DVR Svengoolie every week so have a few episodes to spare.

I forgot I had this in my Media Library.

After the giant spider was dispatched (should I have included a Spoiler Alert? My bad), we stuck with our DVR with Mad Love, which we recorded from TCM.

It is delightfully creepy.

Also on our DVR were a few episodes of Columbo from the sadly brief time that MeTV showed them (here’s a Fruedian autocorrect: MeTV became Meth. A commentary on the addictive nature of television?). We love Columbo.

Peter Falk is so cool.

It seems I have segued into a Saturday Cinema Post. Well, why not? I am over 250 words and included pictures. I call that a respectable post. Happy Saturday, everyone!
