We’ll Pretend It’s Still Friday

OK, so I did not make my Lame Post Friday post on Friday.  Judge me if you are so inclined.  In the interests of sharing good news, I am ten-finger typing on my new Chromebook, which seems suspiciously like a laptop to me, lounged on my couch (the computer kind of jiggles as I type, but I cannot say it is precariously balanced on one leg) and drinking coffee. Oh thank God for coffee!  I won the Chromebook at the Basket Raffle at Lights, Camera, Murder, the murder mystery we put on to benefit the Herkimer County Historical Society.  It was in a basket donated by Herkimer College, which had some other really great stuff in it:  a couple of notebooks (the spiral-bound paper kind, which I love), two t-shirts, a travel mug and two water bottles, plus a few more goodies.  So thank you, Herkimer College and Herkimer County Historical Society.

So already this is a pretty cheerful post.  Let me continue the cheeriness if I can by sharing a picture or two.  I turn to my Media Library.

We all know I am on the Naughty list.

I accidentally clicked on this picture but thought, oh well, it is seasonal.  It was also taken at a fun community event sponsored by Herkimer BPA. They plan many other events in the coming year, which I hope Mohawk Valley Girl will be able to attend (preview of coming attractions).

I love these cheesy flicks!

This was the first picture that caught my eye, but the other had already been clicked on.  I will probably have a quiet New Year’s Eve at home, watching movies, possibly of the cheesy horror variety, which regular readers know I love.  I have written about a few of them in this space, but those posts do not tend to get a lot of blogger love.  Still, they are fun to write and I do not rule out writing more of them.

Oh, this is swell!  I was all happy about this new Chromebook, but now I cannot get it to scroll down to where I Save Draft or even where I can see my word count! I know, first world problems.  Then again, I live in the so-called first world, what other problems am I supposed to have?

Ah!  I got it to scroll!  Regular readers know what a triumph and relief that is for me, who is so technologically inept.  And I am over 400 words.  Wow!  And this computer underlined “am over” and suggested “have over.”  Well, I guess I am what I write.  And there is some half-baked philosophy for you.  This is a Lame Post Friday post after all.

The Bare Bones of a Blog Post

I had it in mind to write a better blog post,  but I’m afraid all I can manage right now is a Monstrous Monday Post.  At least it will be made on Monday.  I shall content myself with that.

Bonita demonstrates how I feel.

I was searching in my Media Library for a picture of a suitable monster but could not find one!  I was feeling dramatically discouraged, in fact ready to swoon with the back of one wrist to my forehead, when I came across this shot of my skeleton Bonita in that exact pose.

Not all skeletons are kind.

I guess I will make this a skeleton-themed post (which gives me a good idea for a title).  Here is a scene from House on Haunted Hill.  It is a very screamy scene.  Sometimes I feel like screaming, but I usually refrain from doing so.

“A little help here?”

Of course it took me a while to find another picture of a skeleton.  I haven’t put this dude out in the yard yet.  My friend Kim put him in the flower box at least temporarily.  Oh wait, I think I took a picture!

Kind of cute, isn’t he?

I think he looks like he is taking a bath in a too small tub.  Then again, since he is a skeleton without a torso, perhaps he does not find it uncomfortable.

In any case I am over 200 words.  I call that respectable, as regular readers know.  As always, I thank you for tuning in.

A Little More Late, A Little More Lame

I don’t think I have ever made my Lame Post Friday post this late before.  And how bad is it that I am only happy that I can do this to procrastinate doing something useful?  Oh well, one does what one can.  In my defense, I am tired from working all day and being in a play.  Additionally, I have been plagued by headaches.  But enough whining, on with the blog post!

Personally, I am not a night person either.

I throw in a picture to pep things up.  This was a present from my late, dearly missed husband, Steve.  I do not know where the cute little vampire is.  The cup should be in my cupboard.  I must find it.

AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!

I was going to continue with Halloween decorations, but this gem caught my eye.  Don’t you sometimes just feel like screaming, even without a creepy lady curling her fingers at you?

Threaten me with an ax, will ya?

I guess it’s Put In Random Pictures And Talk About Them Day.  This is from a rehearsal of Roxy, a play presented by the Herkimer County Historical Society and Ilion Little Theatre.  It concerned the true story of a local murder of a man by his wife.  Quite frankly, I think he had it coming, but then, I played the wife, so you can’t take my word for it.

I see I am over 200 words, so I guess it is on to doing something useful for me.  I wonder if it would be considered useful to take a nap.

Did Anybody Miss Me? Or My Monsters?

Well, this is dreadful.  I have not posted in four days.  I haven’t missed this many days in a row since I had COVID.  I was (and I guess am) sick again, but I do not know what it is.  The main symptom seems to be complete exhaustion.  I guess not literally complete, because I did go to work yesterday and made it through the whole day.  I even did some work.

Never mind my stupid physical problems (and we won’t even go NEAR the mental ones).  Let me try instead for a blog post.

“Puttin onna RIIIIIIIITZ!”

When in doubt, throw in a monster, that’s my motto.  Here is the Monster and his creator from Mel Brooks’ Young Frankenstein, one of my all-time favorite movies.

Me too.

And here is the Bride, with a rather profound saying.  Have I had enough coffee for profundity?  Better have a little more.

Can you dig it?

Torn between two pictures, I went instead for a third one, because I have not used it in recent memory.  Back in the ’70’s, when I was in my early teens, my favorite saying was “Dig it!”  I became rather tiresome with it, as junior high school students are apt to do.  Am I becoming tiresome with my monsters?  I’m afraid that is what old lady bloggers are apt to do.

In any case, I am over 200 words.  I’m a blogger again!  Or do I flatter myself?

Bonita to the Rescue!

Monday was a Blogger’s Sick Day.  Now it is early Tuesday morning and I am trying for some semblance of a post. Coffee will help.

I’m getting there.

Well, that took forever, and it isn’t even the picture I was looking for.  But it will have to do.

Now I feel like screaming.

Unable to think of anything else to say, I went to my Media Library and found this picture from The Screaming Skull.  It is actually a pretty entertaining flick, although I first encountered it on Mystery Science Theater 3000, which, in case you did not know it, features cheesy movies.

And it hasn’t even started yet!

I thought I would continue the skeleton theme, and do you think I could find any skeletons?  I found a half dozen other pictures I have wasted time searching for.  One day I will sit down and make an index of that Media Library.

A depiction of me, buried in my own thoughts.

There’s a skeleton!  Or at least parts of one.  Your imagination can supply the rest.

Oh dear.  All I am doing is watching the word count and hoping to make it to 200 words.  Is this how other bloggers do it?  I don’t think so.

Bonita to the rescue!

One more skeleton picture will put me over the top!  This is my beloved Bonita, wearing a dog mask we found at a rummage sale.

And that is over 200 words.  On to face Tuesday!

Cheesy Flicks, Cheesy Post?

I thought it might be a good idea to make my Lame Post Friday post on Friday.  I have apparently thought this before, because my predictive text thingy chimed right in with it as I went.  It can be so handy sometimes.

Fun flick!

I have been watching my beloved cheesy horror movies and crocheting.  Earlier I was looking at the news and playing solitaire (with a deck of cards, as regular readers probably know), but I found that too depressing.  Additionally,  I am crocheting a baby afghan for my friend Kim’s grandson.  I hope to finish it while he is still a baby.

I first put in Mesa of Lost Woman, which I enjoyed very much.  Perhaps I will write a whole blog post about it one day (note to self: check if I have already).  My movie write-ups do not seem to get a lot of blogger love (I am sadly quite a Like junky), but I do have fun writing them.

I don’t quite get this poster.

I am currently watching The Incredible Petrified World.  The poster was the only image I could find, and I must say it does not seem to have much to do with what I am watching.  These things happen, I suppose.

And I see I am 9ver 200 words.  Score! I hope to continue my movie watching and crochet activities tomorrow.  Will it be blogworthy?   A little suspense adds interest to my weekend.

Would Ten-Finger Typing Have Helped?

I meant to go for a walk or run after work today, so I could do a Running Commentary or Pedestrian Post.  I do not know why I thought I would do any such thing.  I am almost always tired after work these days.  I get very little done beyond the bare essentials.  In fact, as I type this (pecking in one letter at a time with the stylus on my Tablet, of course), I am remembering an essential or two I ought to be doing instead.

That was as far as I got earlier.  Full disclosure:  I did not do any of the aforementioned essentials, for which I am feeling suitably guilty.  Now I am back on my couch, on my Tablet, and I really would rather be headed to bed, but would like to make my blog post first.

Preview of Coming Attractions?

I looked in my Media Library at October 2016 for a Throwback Thursday picture.  When I was outside earlier, the air smelled like fall.  Additionally, my fall allergies are starting to kick in.  Therefore this picture from Pumpkin Junction in Sauquoit seemed appropriate.   I have seen posts on Facebook telling fall junkies like me to “back our pumpkin spice asses off, summer isn’t over yet!”  Of course it is still summer.  In fact, tomorrow is supposed to be hot and humid, and won’t that be pleasant for all involved?

There’s a summer view!

I went to June 2020 for this one.  My deck has not been in good shape to hang out on for a while.  My toenails have not been painted, and those sandals are broken.  You can just see one of my late husband Steve’s legs, beyond the glass of wine, just to remind me that toenails and sandals are really not things to be sad about.

Oh dear, I did not mean to make a melancholy blog post.  I expect some sadness will always be with me, but I do not mean to burden others with my emotions.  Let me look for a pleasant memory to close with.

Cheers to you, Steve!

Here is Steve in Ruggerios Trattoria in Little Falls, NY in the summer of 2019.   Good memories!

And I see I am over 350 words.  Perhaps I could come up with an off the wall headline suitable for a Non-Sequitur Thursday Post.

In My Defense, Nosferatu!

Wuss-out Wednesday follows Tired Tuesday once again.  On the brighter side, I think I found what I must have inadvertently clicked to cause the technical difficulties I lamented these past two posts.  Let me add a picture (yes, predictive text thingy,  I usually do add “to pep things up”) and see how that goes.

“Just peeking in to see how it’s going.”

Score! I am back to the view I am used to!  As usual, all my problems are caused by Operator Error. I put a picture of Nosferatu, because I thought Mid-Week Monsters might be fun and easy.  I am all about making things easy these days, although it seems I rarely succeed.

A scary thought, indeed!

I have no idea where this one came from, but it was in my Media Library and I know I have not used it as many times as I have, for example, the one of Nosferatu.  In my defense, Nosferatu!

I wonder who does his nails.

I am not sure which Wolfman this is, but he looks scary enough.  I, personally, am fond of Lon Chaney,  Jr. in the part, although I always feel so sad for him.  I feel he is a tragic character.  I could write a whole essay on werewolves as tragic figures.  Perhaps I will, but not today.

I see this nonsense has brought me over 200 words.  Score!  Let’s see if I can make my Thursday blog post on Thursday.  No promises.

Tired, Late Post, But Popcorn!

I was too tired to make a blog post on Sunday and I am too brain dead to make one now.  I overslept, not by a huge amount, but apparently long enough to make a difference.  What the heck is the matter with me?  I’m so tired I am even saying “heck” because it is easier than fighting with autocorrect.

“Oh dear me!”

Once again, I throw in a picture to pep things up (autocorrect sucks, but sometimes the predictive text thingy is dead on).  This is from last July.  What a difference a year makes!  I had a husband.  I knew what to wear.  But it is no good to look back and repine.

Mmmm… Dyn’s Cider Mill

I look back to look ahead.  A trip to Dyn’s Cider Mill in Richfield Springs is in my future!  They have, bar none, the BEST popcorn.  Regular readers may recall that I pop it on the stove in oil and put real butter on it, as God intended (I say that as a joke; I do not pretend to really know the plans of the Almighty). Yum!

Dyn’s Cider Mill is located at 7915 NY-28, Richfield Springs,  NY, phone number 315-858-2078. They are open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.

What Was I Using My Brain For?

I am taking a Blogger’s Sick Day.  I did not even make it through a full day at work.  I know what some of you are thinking:  that I overindulged at Fratello’s Pizzeria in Frankfort last night and paid the price today.  It’s not true!  I indulged the exact same amount as usual, perhaps a little less than sometimes since I avoided deep fried anything.  I feel most ill-used.

Who could be un-cheered by Tucker?

I thought I would throw in a picture to pep things up, before I was lost in a morass of whining.  This is from September 2018, making this also a Throwback Thursday Post.  It is my friend Tucker as Renwick Spaulding in Donate to Murder,  the character and mystery I referenced on Tuesday, if anybody remembers.

I can’t really settle my mind to this post.  It’s my stomach that is doing me dirt.  I can’t help thinking that if I only ate or drank the right thing, I would feel better.  However, if the Ginger Ale I got out of the machine at work didn’t help, I have no great hopes of the food I have in the house.  Uh oh, whining again.  Quick, throw in another picture.

Nice side eye.

Here is a shot from The Brain That Wouldn’t Die,  one of my favorite cheesy horror movies.  My brain would and did.  However, I think the picture also qualifies this as  Non-Sequitur Thursday Post.  Who says I can’t multi-task?
